The only reason I still have the stock head unit is because I like the way it looks and you can't find one, IMO, that will look good and fill the entire gap. I'm not too bright about these things either. I let the pros install the system in my Jeep, but I kinda want to learn more.

What about this one?

Or this one?

What's the difference between Class AB, Class BD, and Class D?

the alpine is 40w x 4 RMS @ 4ohms

the kendwood is 60w x 4 RMS @ 4ohms. those are the numbers to look at since you will be running 4 channels at 4 ohms. I run 50w x 4 RMS @ 4ohms and its more than loud enough. I cant tell if the kenwood as dual crossovers but the alpine does (with a greater frequency range too!)

im not really a kenwood or JVC fan so I would of course recommend alpine.

Sorry, let me rephrase... Do you listen to "instruments" or "beats".

This is not meant as a joke, it's a serious question that should be asked before putting money into an audio system.

You couldn't tell me anyway? tongue

I understand what you mean Aaron. I listen to most music. I'll listen to rock, rap, hip hop, r&b, those are the main things. I was really liking the Alpine.

I think your money would be best invested in a powered subwoofer system, An 8-10" sub in box with amp included all-in-one. It will cost more than $100, but would be the most bang for the buck, and you can tap in at the rear 6x9"s, easy install.

If you had told me you listen to mostly Clapton, Neil Young, Hendrix, BB King... I would've said to take all of the money and buy a 50 watt x 2 amp for the front speakers.

exactly like Aaron said, a system that is all in one with the speaker(s), enclosure, and amp is your best dollar bill : sound buy. If you are particular with an amp you like, at least get the box & sub set up and an appropriately powered amp for it.

I didn't particularly want to do sub(s) just yet. I wanted to wait until I had a little more money saved, that way I could do a hidden sub and amp thing. I want it to look fairly stock. If I wanted to go all out, I would have just taken the system from my Jeep and put it in.

IMO, if you get a small bass/amp combo, it wont get loud enough. And if you go all out without amping the mids and highs, then you just sound like a teen driving around with all bass.

if you cant drive down the highway with you windows down and hear the music just fine (without distortion), then you need to amp those mids/highs.

so you blew your subs and their excuse was because your ground wire was loose?

if anything, that should blow the fuse in the amp, or the safety fuse to the amp built in the amp powerline.

I call shenanigans.

I'd go for the Alpines, especially if you are swapping subs and keeping the same box.
