Don't pull on wires when trying to remove a plug nono

I thought I would get away with it, and I didn't bonk Now I need to repair or replace this plug -

This is for the light at the rear most part of the door.

I guess the best way is to get another plug and splice it in? Is it a standard type I can pick up at a parts store?

Dealers have connector kits for those - the metal pins/sockets crimp onto the wires and then slip into the plastic parts. You should be able to get them to fix it for you for short shop time or a case of root beer... check it out.

JR,
Did you break the plastic part of the plug or socket, or did just the wires pull out?
If you broke something I might have a used connector and socket. I'll have to look through my "Stuff" in storage for you.

I also have a parts car, I'll see if I can find one of those. Can you take pictures of the part you broke?

alright i have one for ya. I have a door jamb switch on my passenger side that has a broken prong on it in the plug. most of the time it doesnt work but the prong can move whilst inside the plug and it causes my interior lights to turn on and off. would pulling the wires and getting new crimps and inserts be a plausible solution. if not do you have any ideas how to fix it. I was hoping to find new switches cause my driver side doesnt work at all anymore, but for the age and rarity of my vehicle, I have had no luck.

What?!?!?

rockauto.com has the door jamb switches, both for 'ajar' and lights.

helpful website. I will bookmark that site. The part for my passenger door im talking about is what the door jamb switch connects too. that connector part that goes up into the mess of wires under the dash. and the site doesnt have it.

Ryan might need to check eBay for a manual set.

The connectors - some are available through the dealers, others you can get weather-pak connectors at an auto parts store and replace both sides.

Well ive tried the dealers. None want to get back with me about the peice i need. I have decided what i need to do. I am going to buy the new jamb switches, which have a small length of wire coming out unlike the current switches, and eliminate the connector all together. I will hard wire the wires coming from the switch and the ones that are in the female connector. They are just $30 a switch and my brake lines are more important right now. Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.
