| Water works fine as long as it doesn't freeze. Distilled is preferred because it doesn't have metallic particles that can corrode passageways. For a short time, you could get away with clean tap water, imo. At the race track nearby, in order to race, you must drain all of your coolant and replace with 100% H2O. Good luck on your journey for Dexcool! _________________ |

Is that being required for Street Legal events too? What a PITA if it is. For true race cars though, water-only makes complete sense and is very commonly done._________________ Dave G 98 Riviera Gutted, 3.8, 180, 104'S, front PEM, 3" DP & Cat, Caddy STB, GR2's. DHP 1.5 |

| Will rust stainless, hah! Is there better alternatives to Dexcool or should I stick with it when it's time to change coolant? |

| i have 140k Dexcool miles with original radiator, hoses, water pump, and engine. Still running nice and cool! Dave, the track I'm referring to is a closed road course in northern Ohio, not a drag strip. _________________

| You will want to be sure your coolant mix is appropriate before you see freezing temps again. How cold does it get this time of year? _________________ Dave G 98 Riviera Gutted, 3.8, 180, 104'S, front PEM, 3" DP & Cat, Caddy STB, GR2's. DHP 1.5 |

| I just run tap water when I need to top it up. You can just flush the old orange (dexcool) stuff out and replace it with regular green antifreeze in the proportion you prefer. Just make sure to change it every 2 years. |

| Just use the color that's supposed to be in there. If it's the old green stuff (i would expect to see this in a 95 if anything) use whatever brand the store has. As long as you mix it right or buy the premixed, it doesn't matter. More likely, it's the pink/orange dexcool fluid though so I would just get the Prestone Dexcool that every place i've seen has. If you have a 95 (green coolant?) or you suspect that maybe someone put the wrong fluid in at some point, get it flushed. If you can't flush it soon, Use the "mixes with all" fluid that Peak and Prestone makes. The properties of these fluids is very similar to that of dexcool but can be safely used on systems that have the old green glyco fluid in them still. bottom line is get it flushed if there are any areas of question. Also, the Redline water wetter does work well for what it is. If you're doing a flush or changing your coolant, throwing a bottle of that into the mix won't hurt our system. _________________ 1997 turtle |
