PostSubject: Engine bay photos needed   Thu Jun 12, 2008 11:03 am

Could someone post a couple photos of a stock SII engine bay? I am mainly looking for photos of the stock airbox (couple different angles). I tried to browse through the showroom and tried the search engine but came up with nothing.

I am looking to install a closed intake system but my fenderwell is occupied with the IC pump and plumbing. I might make a box but it would be easier to modify the stock box to suck air out of the fenderwell.

Thanks!

since your INTERCOOLED............ IMO i would just make a 4 inch or 5 inch WAI and route it to behind the headlight.......... FLOW is probably more important than cold air at your point:twisted:

EDIT: you don't want to be sucking all of your air through your FWI hole....... i noticed QUITE the difference in my 3.5 inch FWI and my 4 inch Behind the headlight.

I have a 4" intake that ends behind the headlights now (used to have the FWI before the Gen V and IC) but the engine and headers really put out some heat. I plan on staying with the 4" for flow but need to block it off from the engine bay as much as possible. IC works great but heat is heat.

I figure I can cut the bottom off the stock box to draw air up from the fenderwell and enlarge the top opening to allow me to continue to run the 4" aluminum piping into it. From what I remember there is plenty of room inside the box so I can run the cone filter on the end of the pipe as well. If anything I can use a factory box to make a fiberglass mold from and modify it as needed. It would be easier to use something that fits in the nook rather than try to build a box that fits.

Definitely want to pull in the coolest air possible - go to the fenderwell. Should be some pictures in the gutted air box and intake write-ups.

I'll see if I can get you something tonight, unless someone else gets it first.

I got a couple of shots of the air box and then thought about it and figured you would want pics of the mounting and whatnot with the top removed, with what I have going on trying to get the '95 back together it'll be the weekend before I could get you those kind of pictures.
I'll get them ASAP if that is what you were looking for.

anything would help. If possible I would like to see placement in the engine compartment, area that the intake tube attaches to the box, and one with the top removed if possible. Thanks for the help- it's been a long time since mine was installed.

L67- unfortunately I need to see the far driver's side corner up front with the airbox.

AA- I have seen many photos of the FWI systems people have put together. I like yours (especially since you put on the flashing- makes it look cleaner).

My problem is I can't put the filter inside the fenderwell anymore because the space is occupied by the IC pump and plumbing so I am thinking about using the stock box with a hole cut in the bottom to draw air up from the fenderwell. That way it would still be sealed off from the engine bay.

I need picutres of the stock box.

BTY gutted airbox writeup is no longer available....

Dave- Thanks! that helps me out- gives me an idea to work from. I think I am going to remove the stock tube and replace with 4" aluminum. My TB outlet is approx 2" higher and a little further out than stock so I will have to run custom piping. If anyone can get me a photo of the inside I would appreciate it. Hopefully there is enough room (when gutted) to fit a conicle filter inside off of the aluminum tube... if not I might just go with the flat K&N but still open the bottom of the box to let some cold air in.
