I don't post many pics of my car due to it's current condition, but a few years ago I shined it up and my brother in law (professional photographer) took some great pics for me.

Here's that big ole Riviera Butt...

If someone can help me thumbnail it or something for a quicker load I'd love to figure it out.

AA, feel free to move this to a LIM gasket thread if you think it's better suited there.

Today i decided to finally change out my lower intake manifold gasket because it has been leaking coolant and oil. my s/c gasket is in pretty bad shape too at 151k miles. Never done this before...

I was able to get everything apart by myself in under 2hrs without rushing. All was good until i was removing the last 2 thing holding the lim in place...the t-stat housing. SNAP, off comes BOTH heads ...

I saw these from Regalgs.org. According to the thread they are made in China and are made of 321 stainless steel ( better material then what the SLP headers are made of) Also looks like it has a 3 inch downpipe, AT $299.99 plus shipping this beats the pacesetter headers in price.

link to the thread at Regalgs.org

I am actually thinking of picking these up instead of pacesetters

Im going to document my 4t80e transmission swap/install. I will post some pics up. Im doing this because the only other install like this has instructions that aren't very specific, or at least not documented as much.

So far, the 4t60 is out, so most pics will be from here on out. Pulling the trans is fairly straight forward. We had to drop the subframe completely though. Surprisingly, the 4t60 looks great, as do the axles.

Our first problem we ran into was that the stock flywheel ...

Just had a new waterpump put on, while they had it apart they put on a new harmonic balancer.

I've noticed since that the engine sounds different from in the cabin. It drives fine, no problems, but I hear a gurgling sorta sound, very faint, in the background noise, that I don't remember... It sort of sounds like the exhuast on a Grand Am with the V6...you know that common sound to all GM V6's...?

Would a new balancer make a "new" noise? Is it possible to put it on wrong, ...

I installed the front and rear addco swaybars today after work. I am a member of the auto club at the base, so I have access to a lift and most available tools.

It took me exactly 4 hours to do the front and rear. The rear is very straightforward: simple R&R.

The front is trickier. The shop manual calls for seperating a tierod and disconnecting the downpipe. WIth a stock exhaust, I am fairly certain you aren't getting the bar out of there without disconnecting the downpipe. I ...

Smaller SC pulleys make more boost, and boost allows the engine to make more power. Be careful, though. If you go too small right away, the engine will knock, which will take away power and can even be harmful to your pistons.

The diameter of the OEM SC pulley is 3.8". Decreasing the diameter causes the blower to spin faster, creating higher than normal boost levels. It only takes a small change in pulley size to make a noticeable difference. Just a .1" diameter decrease will yield ...

This was done on my 96', but im pretty sure it will be exactly the same for all 95-99 rivs. it took me less than an hour to do both sides, and that includes drink pauses and pictures

Tools:

12mm socket

18mm socket with either a breaker bar, air tools or alot of strength

10mm wrench

1/2" socket

caliper piston cube or needle nose pliers

brake cleaner

caliper paint?

2 new rotors - i went with autozone's duralast # 5599 (they were $20 each with a 2yr warranty)

CAI: Cold Air Intake

FWI: Fender Well Intake

One of the great things about our engines using forced induction (supercharging) is that they really benefit from breathing cool air. You will notice as air temperatures drop, your Riviera will seem a little faster. You aren't imagining this; colder air is denser than warmer, so with more air molecules entering the intake, more fuel can be added by the PCM. The result is more power. It can be estimated that for every 10ºF drop in ambient ...

EXACTLY what trans swap to our rivs? ('97 GTP)

Am trying to install a GTP trans in the Riviera. I picked up for a good deal a 'built' low milage tranny from a '97 GTP. It was a good enough deal that I can resell it if it won't fit.

Axle outlets the same splines, etc?

It has 3.29 gears, lots of other stuff (LSD, 3000 stall converter, etc). I've decided the 3.29s will be more appropriate for my mostly city driving anyway

Thanks

How To Properly Dispose Of Nasty Stuff

We get lots of questions from members each month and most are specific to certain makes of cars. One set of questions that keep coming up is a more general one, however. Everybody seems to have the same problem: how to get rid of nasty stuff like waste, oil, antifreeze and, above all, oily rags. While we can't give the "perfect" answer, here are some great methods. ...

Hello all,

I just bought -96 Riviera SC from Estonia.

The reason for that was simple: these cars are way too expensive here in Finland and this example was in good condition.

Data:

132000 miles

Black exterior, beige interior (I'll try to take some good photos later).

Thanks to forum I've got good information about this model way before I even bought the car.

Known problems:

1. A/C blows only cold for driver, but passenger side is full adjustable.

Here are some progress pics of the body work.

The plan is to pull the bumpers into the car some. Similar to Jack the R's photos in his signature.

First fiberglass was laid on the stock bumper cover to get a shell to start with. This part will eventually become the "plug" for a mold to make the new bumper cover.

Then the process of cutting, reattaching, shaving, adding, grinding, sanding......you get the idea.

The shape is getting there. ...

Hey everyone,

I just recently installed a boost gauge in the '95 Riv, and while I was in there, I discovered that a vacuum hose was a little loose. No big deal, I stuck it back on there and it was tight. Must have been from when i changed my coupler. However, beside it, was another nipple/nozzle thing. I couldnt help but notice when I started the car up to test my boost gauge, I could hear a vacuum hiss coming from that area. See picture in this link:

does replacing the fuel pump require actually dropping the tank on these cars?
I did a search and couldnt find an answer here. I thought we had a write up on it. I just figured it would be the hard way on our cars, like everything else (belts,etc.).

hey my uncle replaced my intake gaskets and didnt do the head gaskets and now i found out i have a burned out wire harness as well. do you all think it would be wiser to go ahead and put in a whole new motor or go back and have the head gaskets and wire harness replaced? i can get a harness for $25 used but the problem is finding someone to do the head gaskets because im not going to pay a shop to do it when i can get a haynes manual and do it myself in a heated garage.
