Ok, heres the run down

I put a Series 3 3800 into our 95 Rivi, switching out all sensors that needed to be, injectors, etc.

Car throws check engine constantly. I had it scanned and was told it was the cam sensor. I replaced that, still have issues:

The car just doesnt run right. The lights dim excessively at idle while in gear. It lopes. ...

The fuel pump died on my cousin's 95 Rivera N/A and I took off the access panel and found that the lock ring is rusted really bad i did a search and found the GM sells the top ring but the bottom ring is so bad I think it will just disintegrate as I try to remove the pump. before I try to remove it I was wondering can the lower ring be replaced or are we screwed. I'll post a pic in a few.

hey my uncle replaced my intake gaskets and didnt do the head gaskets and now i found out i have a burned out wire harness as well. do you all think it would be wiser to go ahead and put in a whole new motor or go back and have the head gaskets and wire harness replaced? i can get a harness for $25 used but the problem is finding someone to do the head gaskets because im not going to pay a shop to do it when i can get a haynes manual and do it myself in a heated garage.

I recently installed HID headlight. Twice before I turned on the headlights with the car running, idling in neutral and when I turned them on they killed the engine. It didn't sputter out or knock, it just straight died as if I had turned off the key. Only instead of going to key-off state the rpms just died off and all the normal warning lights came on (battery, low oil, check engine etc..) They have yet to kill the engine when I am driving and turn them on, and also ...

Hey fellas, im very frusrated with this. I have a 95 buck riviera, we put a brand new engine in it and a transmission. I went to get a diagnostic test done on it, and the mechanic said it had a bad ignition switch, among the kncok sensor, rear sensor etc. So i got all of them things fixed besides the front knock sensor and even got the neutral safety switch changed because the one we got from the junkjard(crazy rays) didn't fit. So after the mechanic fixes the problem i'm wondering how did he ...

Car runs like a top and doesnt miss a beat. Although it seems to be slower than a slug... Also it seems like it chugs gas.

Can I jump pins and count flashes on this car? If so can someone point me to a how-to

Should the housing for the thermostat have a gasket?

Its not a Riv but its the same engine so I appreciate any info...

95 Park Ave.

NASeriesII Engine

I pulled the thermostat housing and it has the remains of a black gasket that is going to be tough to remove without scarring up the intake where the water neck attachés.

Any tips on getting that crap off without gouging up the aluminum?

I know the thermostat has a O ring that goes around it.

Does the thermostat housing also need a gasket?

Thanks

I was doing a BG fuel induction service, and in the process had to remove a c-clip that was holding in a flimsy screen that is in front of the mass air flow sensor.

I can think of three possible reasons for it being there:

Cut down on intake noise

Stop large particles that may have circumvented the air filter

Diffuse the air coming in, so that it blows onto the mass air flow sensor at an even rate as the rest of the intake.

If it is there for the latter reason I should leave it. ...

OK for those that know, the Riviera was on life support and I didnt pull the plug. Fortunately I got another motor for it, but the motor has the front mounts, you know, from the Grand Prixs? They have the ones that go to the front of the car, while ours are side mounts. Is there any way I can still use this motor before I have it pulled from the car and mine taken out?

Ok, from my thread in the "showroom" section:

I did get the plug wires and battery in tonight. I got it to start! Yay!

The noise it makes is something ferocious though... Im not sure WTH it is but it doest sound good.

It has a loud like cackle and it idles wonderful? Whatever it is its in front in the heads to the left *I think*...

Going to try and have a mechanic look at it tomorrow to get an idea. Normally I do all my own work as I can (if I know whats wrong!) ...

My daily driver(95 Park Avenue) has a slight surge when accelerating.

Just wondering if anyone had an idea what would cause that?

The surge is hard to describe and you can just barely feel it. Its like you are feathering the throttle. The Tach wiggles just a fuzz when it is happening.

The gas mileage seems to be fine and the car runs fine except for the surge.

It has 83,000 miles.

Thanks

I have been getting a funny oil burning smell in my interior every so often while driving.
Exhaust removal from SC 3.8 II?

Does anyone out there think that cutting off the exhaust on the backside of the converter and removing everything after, then installing 2.5 in. exhaust pipe to just behind the rear wheels will help or hinder performance!

Thanks for the help!
