Hey everyone. My '88 Rivi comes standard with the Self Leveling Air Struts in the rear. Lately, they havent been working. The compressor still runs, cause I can hear it. But it doesn't pump up the struts anymore. Everytime I hit a small dip in the road the rear clunks down. It makes me cringe. Anyone know any diagrams I can get my hands on to start fixing it? I can't find any myself. I even have a Haynes manual and it doesnt tell me anything about it. The vehicle manual doesnt have anything about ...

On those 19" wheels im getting tomorrow night are a set of Nitto NT555 series tires. I'm certainly no tire expert but I know the basics. I went to their website and it appears these are a high performance street tire. They feel stickier than my current tires, thats for sure.

Hello everyone-I'm new to the site as I just picked up a 97 Riv S/C with 130k. My problem is I have a bad vibration that comes on at about 70mph. I have already had the tires balanced and put on new brakes front and rear with rotors turned. I do have a bad rear trans mount and wondering if that can cause this vibration. Anyone have a similiar problem? Just looking for advise.

For what it's worth, my stock rear rotors literally fell apart at 50k miles. I replaced them with cheaper (Chinese made) NAPA discs and have been good to almost 127k. During that time, I've changed the fronts at least twice. I'll consider getting a better quality set for the front next time, but the rears are not getting any special treatment.

Here is one of the best bang-for-the-buck handling mods you can do to your riv. It's a strut tower brace (STB) designed for the Cadillac seville STS, gm part# 25653157. You can read the entire thread about it at regalgs.org. Go out and get one of these STBs. It truly makes a notable difference. If you guys in the US can order if for 20$ + shipping, you have no reason not to order it right now.

Front end feel is greatly improved. The car feels much more composed over uneven pavement. ...

I tested the rear left (drivers side) sensor at the control unit and a signal is present so it should have cleared the fault.

I installed the front and rear addco swaybars today after work. I am a member of the auto club at the base, so I have access to a lift and most available tools.

It took me exactly 4 hours to do the front and rear. The rear is very straightforward: simple R&R.

The front is trickier. The shop manual calls for seperating a tierod and disconnecting the downpipe. WIth a stock exhaust, I am fairly certain you aren't getting the bar out of there without disconnecting the downpipe. I ...

Okay, I think I have my problem solved, but this process was so painful that I wanted to share with you all.

I just bought this car a couple of months ago. The previous owner stated that the car was in great mechanical shape and I had nothing to worry about coming up. He said, "...well I just replaced the brakes all the way around, it's got new tires, a new alternator, new plugs and wires...all factory stuff." He's a mechanic so I just took his word.

I found the centerbore is 1/16" bigger diameter than the stock rims, and suspected that was the case when I installed them, they seemed a bit loose. However, the studs and lugnuts seemed to center pretty well when I tightened things up carefully. However, I've found online info that "lug-centric" (as opposed to "hub-centric") wheels need to be torqued down with ...

The noise instantly disappears the moment the wheel returns towards the center. At about the same time this began, I started hearing a clunk when I went from coast to accelerating, specially at low speeds or coming from a stop. I am feeling a vibration in the steering wheel, but this may be unrelated.

Well, steering this car feels very unnatural...I just don't know how else to describe it other than it is not as responsive as my old Cadillac. I've read a couple of posts in the chassis/suspension category and can't come up with much in the way of actually tightening up the chassis.

I suspect that the tires ...

Hot 20's for 139 ea, you can't beat that. Get them while they last - 18's are already gone. 17's are still available for $116 ea.

These (20s) should be about 6 lb heavier than stock with the tires mounted. If you've done the F-body break mod you'll only be 3 lbs heavier than stock in the front - not bad!

I'd get these but I'm feeling the chrome a little more - no rush on those.

Prior to this, the steering worked flawlessly.

For the last 6 months, when it gets wet out (or even just really humid) my car makes a clunking noise when I come to a stop, and then again when I accelerate (It sounds as if the pads are stuck to the rotors but that's my UNeducated guess). I just had the brakes done by my dealer but they didn't replace the caliper (Just rotor and pads). My question is, could the issue be my pistons in the calipers are just sticky when it's wet out, or could it be my suspension?

Growling sound from front end.

I have noticed a growling sound from the front end, it only occurs when cornering to the right under accelleration. The sound is more noticible with more G's (ie: more accelleration/tighter turn.) I was thinking maybe bearing or CV gear. Anyone had this issue?

i removed the rear body mounts, the ones closet to the front of the car, and replaced them with hockey pucks. it took three, the stock body mount is 81 mm long 3 pucks = 80mm ,plus 1 fat washer to make up the difference and voila! it makes a big diference in cornering and the back end feels alot more controled and sure footed. gone is the side to side mushy feeling. and the car sits a whole lot better. please try this mod and you will see the diference. its dead easy to do ,and pucks are way ...
