OK so you work at a shop... did you pull the dash yet to see if maybe the wires to the HVAC head are not completely seated? Since you work at a shop, taking the dash off yourself and having a look back there should not be a big deal. Please do it and tell us what you find.

| yea i bought a new a/c head unit when i bought the car cuz the bulbs on the fan button didnt light up, it worked til i got a tv installed, i have a wiring diagram for the hvac and a green&black wire runs through the radio harness and the hvac harness, im not the best with tracing down wires but the code pulls up the same thing everytime, its just the hvac programmer is $500 and i want to know for sure thats it, i would take it to the dealer but they gonna tell me what i already know besides replacing the programmer |

| are you saying that the TV got wired into the HVAC harness? probably the thing to do is 1) hope they did not fry the AC controller 2) there are empty positions in teh fuse panel, a GM dealer should have the bits you need to add a fuse and then you can run a wire to the TV instead of taking power from the HVAC circuit. If the power drain from other stuff on that circuit (a TV, natch) is too high a low voltage condition might result. Some solid state electronics don't like to run right with voltage too low and may malfunction or be destroyed as a result. You will need the wiring diagram in the installation manual for the TV to figure this one out; it's been pointed out before on this forum that Rivs really do not like electrical aftermarket accessories... good luck... | Yes I have, and I bought it from the salvage yard for $10. All the lights worked and after I plugged it in everything was fine. I don't see why anyone would wire a TV through the HVAC controller? I'd take it back to the person who installed the TV and tell them to rewire it. |

| I replaced my HVAC head unit and it just plugged in and worked. Have you checked all your fuses? Do any lights come on? _________________ '98 Buick Riviera; Gen V 3.25 pulley, N*, VS Cam, 180 stat, Custom PCM (Powrtuner), headers & HF cat , 42.5 lb inj. Referring to the above: are you going to continue posting in caps or are you going to roll up your sleeves and get the installation manual for the TV and figure this out?
If you are not able to do that (that's OK not everyone wants to dive into car wiring, it's not their cup of tea) the thing to do is go back to the installation place and tell them please take the TV out and restore the wiring to factory spec.

| It all sound too odd. I didn't think the PCM would fail in such a way, but I'm not sure. Have you tried disconnecting the other stuff just to see what happens.? _________________ 98 Riv, 102K Miles, EBC, LS1 Ft.Calipers, STB, Addco Rr Sway Bar, 180* stat., SSAC Headers, HF Cat, 1.9's, 105# springs, MPS 3.4, DHP tuned by the Deekster.

| OK, let's get a couple things straight (everyone, not just you )... First of all, it's VERY unlikely that the PCM is sour... It has little to do with the ECC (Electronic Climate Control) and very much to do with the drivetrain. If the car runs fine, the mechanic is probably spouting bullshit. Secondly, the ECC Programmer is NOT the thing on the dashboard that we punch buttons on... That is the ECC 'Head' or 'Control'. The 'Programmer' is behind the passenger's kick panel, on the right side of the footwell. However, this problem, considering the trouble code and especially the aftermarket TV-job, sounds like the data line between the center stack (where the Head is) and the Programmer was severed. IIRC, the radio and the ECC share a data line, so that the steering wheel controls can tell them both what to do... Also, the PCM doesn't care what the sound system is doing, but it does need to know when the compressor is requested, and the ECC needs to know when the coolant is hot enough to start blowing heat. Do you have the shop manuals (FSM)? _________________ 97 Riviera L67 - Desert Sandstone - Gutted AB Lid, Kool Blue AF, 180* SuperStat, Hogan 3" DP, ZZP 3.6" MPS; Sensa-Trac struts, Rockford-Fosgate 6x9's; Annoyance-Fixes: Express-Down delete, Full-time juice to Power Port, BRP-power to Glovebox lite, Brake-to-Shift delete, Console-compartment lite, Seat/Mirror Memory in any gear.
