| today while I was driving i noticed the service engine soon light came on and when i came to a stop at the light it was idling high around 1200 so i went to auto zone to get one of them code keys to put into the port to check the code but now the engine light is off and idling back to normal ....Any ideas on what caused this high idle to come then go away.... its a 91 with about 51 thousand miles any help would be appreciated |

| Did the light go out right after you connected the code key? _________________ |

| could be a problem with the IAC. I've forgotten most of my Gen IV Riv Troubleshooting. (I used to have an '86) Does it have the CRT touch climate/radio display? If so you can read the sensor output from everything in diagnostic mode... _________________ '98 Buick Riviera; Gen V 3.25 pulley, N*, VS Cam, 180 stat, Custom PCM (Powrtuner), headers & HF cat , 42.5 lb inj. | The light went out on the way to go get the code key ... I still put the code key in and no codes showed up ....the service engine soon just kept on blinking so i figured that it couldn't find any codes cause the light went out........and it doesn't have the touch screen |

| like derek said, there could be a problem with the IAC valve. it may be getting stuck b/c of dirt. btw a blinking SES light is very bad. it means pull over and turn the car off! _________________ 3.4, N*, 1.84RR, P&P blower and LIM, 3"DP, 4"WAI, plog, 6K HID, Eibach pro springs, KYB GR-2, Fbody 12" brakes, caddy STB & sway bar. | I will check out the iac ..... yea i meant that it kept on blinking while the code key was in i guess it suppose to blink 3 times then suppose to bring up a series of codes but it just kept on blinking so i figured it couldn't find anything because the engine light went out before i put the code key in |
