| I have been told that the 95 riv is a OBD 1.5.....whats that mean? Can I use a OBDII scanner? Where is the port? Will that paperclip trick from the OBD1's work? |

| unfortunately, OBD 1.5 means neither will work, and you need a special scan tool. _________________ '98 Buick Riviera; Gen V 3.25 pulley, N*, VS Cam, 180 stat, Custom PCM (Powrtuner), headers & HF cat , 42.5 lb inj. Grant-built/PRJ/Thrasher trans 3.29 gears, 7/8 chain, zzp hardened IS |

| Try reading through this LINK and see if it is of any help; http://rivperformance.editboard.com/series-i-scans-tuning-f14/scannng-setup-for-the-1995-riviera-t144.htmAlso: http://rivperformance.editboard.com/series-i-scans-tuning-f14/actron-scantool-t5.htmI have one of these scan tools that i use on both OBD1 and OBD2. Gives basic info needed for diagnosis. Bought it on sale at a local auto parts store then got additional cable on-line. Not very expensive, IIRC. _________________ 98 Riv, 102K Miles, EBC, LS1 Ft.Calipers, STB, Addco Rr Sway Bar, 180* stat., SSAC Headers, HF Cat, 1.9's, 105# springs, MPS 3.4, DHP tuned by the Deekster.

| I've always thought '95 Rivs were OBDI. The plug in port should be in the lower dash, under and left of the steering wheel, not far from the p-brake pedal. _________________ |

| My '94 Regal wouldn't accept any normal OBD-I or OBD-II scanners either. That's when I first learned of OBD-1.5 Some companies make OBD-II scanners with a special adapter cable for this, but it was going to cost me around $500 and I decided it wasn't worth persuing, at that point I took my immediate problem to a shop who had the appropriate computer and paid them to tell me what was wrong with it. Much cheaper at the time. I never figured out how to scan that car. _________________ '98 Buick Riviera; Gen V 3.25 pulley, N*, VS Cam, 180 stat, Custom PCM (Powrtuner), headers & HF cat , 42.5 lb inj. | It was a local garage with one of those huge "BEAR" computers and a zillion adapters and things. _________________ '98 Buick Riviera; Gen V 3.25 pulley, N*, VS Cam, 180 stat, Custom PCM (Powrtuner), headers & HF cat , 42.5 lb inj. | the 95 is really obd1.5, in that the computer is obd1 but the connector is obd2. For a scanner you really just need a normal scanner that has a obd2 plug, but that will still also do obd1. I use the Actron CP9145... got it off amazon for around 90 bucks CAD, should be cheaper for those in states as you won't pay as much shipping or border duty. hrm, looks to have gone up in price abit: http://www.amazon.com/Actron-CP9145-AutoScanner-Diagnostic-Capability/dp/B00020BM2S/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1234121877&sr=8-1functionality is limited when scanning obd1, mostly just lets you see the critical data, but not change anything or record runs or anything... _________________ |

| in short, yes. However, don't quote me that any OBD1 will for sure work on the 95, its an odd year. So things are a little hit and miss for scaning it. _________________ |
