Regarding the 180º t-stat, this is a mod used in SC engines to help reduce knock. There is not benefit other than that. While you can install one on a NA engine and make the coolant temp drop, I don't think it will give anything performance-wise. Like Derek said, your engine is happiest right around 200ºF.

hmm, my thermostat stays right at 160, and the heater doesn't work too good. Maybe time for a thermostat.
