Recirculate Mode Intake Empty
PostSubject: Recirculate Mode Intake   Recirculate Mode Intake EmptyMon Jul 07, 2014 9:47 pm

Does any one know where the air intake is for the HVAC recirculate mode on a 97 Riviera?  I want to deodorize the HVAC system in my car and need to spray the cleaner into the interior intake while in Recirculate mode.  I tried to find it myself with the system on high, but couldn't.   Pictures would help

Using a piece of paper under the dash is the best way to find it. I have never done it on a Riv, but have on other cars. With fan on high and on recirc mode, wave a piece of paper around under the dash until you feel it getting sucked in.

If you have to 'deoderize' I would be willing to bet that what you really need to do is push a heavy wire (coathanger) carefully up into the drain (on the firewall, near the power steering pump, looks like a small duck's bill facing down) and let the water out. That will most likely make any unusual odors go away.

...and if that does not work, make a deodorizing solution of OdoBan (available at Sams Club and HomeDepot) per label directions, about a gallon of it in hot tap water, and pour it into the air intake on the drivers side just below the windshield wiper.

Derek,

how far should the coat hanger wire go?  I don't want to do any damage.

I'd guess 3 inches or so. You just have to break through the layer of crap clogging the drain, and you'll start getting wet. Then you'll know it's time to stop. wink
