PostSubject: 95 RIV starts and stalls. anti-theft key dtc   Sat Dec 07, 2013 5:51 pm

Car will start fine then immediately stall out as if I turned the key off. Code is for anti-theft. Got a new key, that didn't change it.

One time it was acting up and I tilted the steering wheel up, and the problem went away for several months.
A tech I know seems to think there is a broken wire for the anti-theft (key chip) reader.
I'm going to start taking the steering column shroud off Monday and look for this wire.
In the mean time: any tips on getting the steering column shroud off? It doesn't seem too easy. Also, is there a way I can just bypass the anti-theft key-chip reader? On most Fords there's a wire you can ground at the pcm to bypass, but you'll still get the theft warning on the dash.

Thanks in advance

(Sorry I haven't been around much, go into motorcycles and that takes up most of my time. The Riv is my bad-weather driver now.)

This is what my dad did on my car 4 years ago and you dont have to worry about the chip anymore if thats the problem. Just bypass it with the correct resistor and you just need to have a properly cut key. There are also no lights or anything associated with this bypass.

It ended up being the PCM
AllData had me test resistance from the ignition collar to the plug at the firewall. Then it had me test the ground on the security module (passenger kick panel), then resistance from the security module to the pcm (behind the glove box). All was good, so it told me to replace the PCM. I did, and it's fixed.

I have one problem with this "fix".....Now your Riv can be stolen in 60 seconds.

Cool that you fixed it. AllData comes in handy eh?
