Turbo lag sucks. Fun as hell when it finally boosts though. I'm not too sure about newer turbo systems, but I know that on a wastegate system, you can crack the gate open a hair (creating an air leak), and the turbo will spool up faster.....

Of course, if I were to go forced induction, I'd see a good MPG drop(5th gear is really tall in the Si's holding 3k RPM at 60mph, not loud though), and I'd have to run premium fuel. I could get the JRSC street setup with a 4.4" pulley to make 5psi and up the WHP from 124 to 174 and WTQ from 118-148, and that would be a simple bolt-on. It has an onboard 'powercard' which sets its own tuned fuel map while in boost, as opposed to the race kit(4.0" or 3.8" 8+psi) which needs tuning and upgraded injectors.
I'm staying stock for now though. I need to maintain my MPG's as far above 30 as possible.

It's ok, he has a '93. An 8th Gen Riv could take me no sweat.

Oh forgot, the other reason I can't go turbo, my car doesn't have traction control!

Another past ride, 95 Impreza. With Winterforce tires, it was a blast to drive in the winter.

Wheelspin...can't help it being FWD.

No need to post useless videos of a Honda spinning it's tires. I own and drive a S/C'ed, modified FWD every day. I know what wheels spin is. That guy in the top video needs to learn how to drive. If the TCS was engaged, he'd be even slower. I'm sure you already know that the TCS engages the brakes to stop wheelspin. Last I checked, brakes were to STOP the car, not help it go forward. Unless of course you own an expensive "race" car where the TCS involves the electronic throttle body instead of the brakes, which is where the Stability control comes in.
He seriously needs to learn how to drive.......

Of course he does, that car should be a lot faster considering the power it can make. I'm just saying that you gotta be a good driver to handle a big turbo on a FWD car...or have a good clutch. I'm glad my car doesn't have TC because it makes for a more direct driving feeling, but I was thinking about modern TC which limits throttle input.

Had an '86 Dodge Lancer ES with the turbocharged 2.2 L. Was not as quick 0-60 as the Riv and got a little worse mileage (being a 3 speed slushbox) but was a *real* nice driver city or highway, like a Saab 900 actually but a hair quicker. (about 8 sec 0-60) The smallest car I've owned that one could really truly drive all day long and still be able to do stuff at the destination; reasonably good reliability and (compared to many cars) inexpensive maintenance; excellent (surprise) build quality. Closest thing to the Lancer body style available recently is the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx, but the Maxx is not as stiff a shell as the Lancer was IMHO. Was buttercream with black trim and a butterscotch houndstooth velour interior; seats had big bolsters on the back cushion and bolster sides and extended cushions. Looked a lot like the car in the 4th and 6th picture on the web site (below) but a year newer with spoked alloy wheels. And like in the Riv you could use the map lights at night without glaring out the driver's night vision. Had an industrial-strength cupholder that folded into the dash. Bought it for 3990, drove it 6 years, sold it for 1750 to a neighbor for his daughter (it matched her shoulder-length blonde hair...). My spouse and I still grin when that car is mentioned. You can read background on the Lancer at http://www.allpar.com/model/lancer.html.

Yeah. We just restored the car. When we bought it, the previous owner had it painted baby blue for his wife. '79 TA's never came in blue. So we stripped it down to the frame and re-did it. Resealed the engine, rebuilt the carb, straightened the body, new brakes, suspension bushings, etc. It's triple black....even blacked out the windows. It's only got 59,000 original miles on it.

Here is my other car, a 1970 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Holiday coupe w/455, one of 14,500 produced. Original with 113k miles. In 1970, this car was priced over $5000 when most cars were $2000, and a "nice" car cost $4000. (average income was only $13,000/yr, and I think most people paid cash for cars back then). I've owned her for over 10 years, so we've been through a lot together. It's the only car I've owned that I admit I like a little more than my Riviera.
