Misfire Empty
PostSubject: Misfire   Misfire EmptyFri Jan 31, 2014 11:06 am

Hey guys I went and go gas, I pressed 91(single pump gas station) and put in 1 gallon of gas and my fuel tank was empty I just need it to get me to work and home. And I felt vibrations and my check engine light was on after half a mile of driving, I had a feeling it was low octagon fuel, so I went and got 6 gallons of gas later and 3 miles later the check engine light went off(tested misfire cylinder 5) I didn't know low octane fuel can cause a misfire??

Low octane gas won't cause a misfire, but bad gas (water mixed) could. "Single pump gas station" is highly suspect. Good job only putting in one gallon and not filling up.

Another thing it could be, your tank may have been low enough that it was running on fumes when you filled up. This might have caused the misfire.

You could have stirred up sediment in the bottom of the tank by running it so low, then only putting in 1 gal. The sediment floats around, blocks up the pre-pump filter, then next time it's off (and/or you added more fuel), the sediment falls off the sock and everything returns to normal.

Just another theory. Bad gas is another good theory.
