I thought about doing those but I don't want to look like every other assclown with a junky 300 or Charger who thinks they're cool by sticking that trash on their car. I'd want mine to be the real deal, actual pieces of the fender and not just stick ons. Funny how everyone thinks Buicks are lame but they all want to steal the porthole thing that Buick started...

I don't think they look trashy on a Buick. They don't technically go on Rivieras, but we have more business doing it than a Mustang or Audi (I've seen both with portholes). And the oval shaped ports do work well with our cars' styling theme.

I'm just saying, it would've been cooler if we had been doing this before every other idiot started it. I feel like they think I'm just trying to be like them now, and I would never give the idiots who do that to other kinds of cars that satisfaction. That's why I want true portholes, those idiots don't do that.

We should talk to Corey Palermo about doing real portholes - you know, cut the holes with a Dremel and duct them in somehow. Maybe put 'em on the hood instead of the fenders. Not sure what to do with the rain.

Or maybe get portholes that match except one has the "R" in it just like the grille emblem.

Or maybe get the "R" opera lights that went on the 80s models and convert them to turn flasher followers like on current cars sold in Europe. Install them on the fenders and nix the Ventiports altogether.

If anyone wants to do it right, design a circuit to fire LEDs inside the ventiports - according to cylinder firing order. This was what Ned Nichols did to his personal car. It was because of him that Buicks were given ports to begin with.

Oh, going off Albert's idea, why not sequential turn signals in the ports? Hmmmm?

Shintsu, relax again... You are always welcome to your opinion, but try not to be so... abrasive.

I like the way they look. Not enough to put them on my car, I wouldn't do it with stick-ons certainly, I would mildly consider it if they were truly vented...

Sorry I'm not a little follower of the dumbasses who started doing that ugliness to cars. It looks fine on Buicks but on anything else it looks horrible and disgraces the designers.

Deekster, sorry I don't have any other setting but truthful (Or as you put it "abrasive").

If I want to put something on my car, I'm not going to let someone in a Honda Civic change my mind. I don't care what they do to their car.

Hey D.J. - nice rims. Do you think I will ever get that money for the T-shirt?

As for the portholes... I think they look good on the Buick models that Buick decided to put them on. No Riviera has ever had them from the factory, as Buick tried to set the Riv apart from the rest of their lineup. i.e. "Riviera by Buick" emblems, not "Buick Riviera". But that's just my personal opinion, I really do not care if anyone else wants to put them on their Riv, mod to your heart's content. cheers

I'm actually thinking about doing this. I found a set that looks different from the ones everyone else has, and they're here:

Any hints on a template or something to use to help installation?

I really think the Riv looks much cleaner without these things on them. They just seem like they stick out too much. It looked good on the old cars because they were more square and just generally looked better. Our cars are too curvy to be sticking these things on them if you ask me.

I do however, believe if someone took the time to properly take the portholes from a six cylinder Lucerne and put them in the fender of a Riv that might look kind neat. Quite a bit of work for something so minor but that would look nicer than the stick on variety portholes. Then again, the Lucerne is more rectangular so I'm not sure if they'd fit as well. I'd still opt with the old style round ones that are actually in the fender than the stick ons though.

I agree with what you're saying Shintsu, it would be nothing short of awesome if someone could actually dremel out holes to bolt some real portholes into, but that takes a steady hand because one messup and it's time for a new fender. I'm going to be using my mechanical drawing tools to precisely make a template out of cardboard that I'll line up with the door edge and can be used on both sides of the car. I'm also going to ensure that they're level and equally spaced.

The portholes do stick out a lot on our low-slung profiled cars, but in my opinion they give the look some bite. I'm gonna make sure to do this as professional as possible, so don't worry.

Those don't look bad in the package. Coincidentally, took my daughter to BK for lunch today, and in the parking lot was another diamond white Riv, but had portholes on his car. He was leaving as I drove in to park next to him, waved as he drove off. frown

If need be, I can put a black something under them like plastic or whatever to keep the blue paint from showing through the mesh.

Nice color, really brings it out! You know, with that big chrome grill it reminds me more of a classic Buick whereas with the skinny chromes it looks more like a Park Ave or something.
