Hi all, just picked up my 95 Riviera S/C today, loving it already.  Nice bookend to my '14 Mustang GT and '74 MGB.  She's solid but gonna need a few things.  I'm always full of questions and all ears.  Has the good ol' upper steering column support issue, no gauge or dash button backlights, a tad of surface rust and a few other quibbles but can't complain with 169k miles over 21 years.  Hope to get good advice, parts and allout good knowledge here, I'm definitely gonna have questions delving into this car for the first time.  Lookin forward to it though!!

Quick question, on my 3800 Series 1 S/C, how prevalent is the supercharger whine supposed to be?  I hear no whine even at decently hard acceleration, and I feel her go, yet I have heard many Series 2 3800s sound completely opposite, with more whine than mechanical clatter.  Is this the norm?  Like I said, new to the world of Rivs, all ears!

Welcome. With the stock intake the whine is hardly audible even with the windows down driving through a tunnel. Its unbelieveable that they can make it that quiet when you hear the amount of noise you can get from an custom intake!

On the 96-99 Rivieras, you can open the air box and remove 2 plastic pieces that will let you hear the super charger whine.  Not sure on the 95's

I'm starting to learn the M67 is a bit different from the M90, is one more quiet than the other?? Coupler replacement doesn't sound as simple on the 67, and I may have a worn coupler. Joy. Oh well, lookin forward to fixing all the little odds and ends, seems like these Rivs are pretty well designed, just wish they had more workspace under the hood!

The M62 is smaller but turns faster (smaller pulley), the M90 is bigger but turns slower.

Believe it or not, Ive always thought the Rivs are about as easy a FWD car Ive ever seen to work on. Everything is pretty simple to replace as far as normal milage replacement parts go.

Did both low beam bulbs today, easy but tight. I must agree, as front wheelers go it's far easier than imports of the same era. Reminds me a bit of my '01 Monte SS. My only worry is parts availability, seems to be tight on certain things, like exterior panels or some interior trim. I know about the Aurora steering column support, but outside of engine/tranny how many parts are interchangeable with other more common GM platforms?

You should find the m62 is louder in every way than the m90. I'd recommend getting a boost gauge and seeing if you are really seeing stock boost(6-7 psi).  The boost bypass solenoid can go bad and give you around 1-2 psi, in which case no you won't really hear the blower.  And there is no gutting needed on the 95, it doesn't have that restrictive bit in the air box like the later models.  Though a FWI will also really wake up the scream.

Where is the bypass solenoid located?? My coupling and bearing are on the to do list, that might explain a bit. I did hear a lil whistle on harder acceleration today, and I do feel decent pickup. I'll know better after replacing the coupling and bearing. Thanks for the info!

The actual solenoid is bolted to the actuator that Larry posted. Its bolted to that bolt and thread you see at the bottom right. Has wires going in and a couple of hoses. Replacements can be hard to find, but one from any year l67 should work, even the series 2.  Check your boost with a boost gauge before trying to find one though, no sense wasting time if there is nothing wrong with yours.
