Does the self leveling suspension continue to operate after you park your car?
-Or- does it shut off once you take out the ignition key?
I heard the compressor kick on when I was standing in the driveway.
Thanks for any info.

It depends.

It is actually supposed to deflate slightly after you park. Sound is a rush of air and a click. It won't run again until you start the car.

It is armed to run when the car thinks the ignition is in the RUN position, if you have an ig switch fault that may be enough to fool it. Run sound depends on the compressor; mine makes a friendly whirring growl. Some remanufactured units may not make much sound at all.

If you have a leak it will run more while you are driving. You may or may not be able to hear it.

The compressor will cycle for 3-5 seconds every time you start the engine. There is supposed to be a 17-35 second delay before it does that. It will run longer if the sensor says the car is low. I hear it every time I start my car. It runs longer in the cold weather.

The compressor should not run with the ignition off. It will expel some air though as Albert said.

The Factory Service Manual has an extensive trouble shooting series of charts. Those charts are very necessary when trying to diagnose problems with the ALC.

Mine ran on my '95 when parked and ignition off. It is no longer hooked up but its possible that the '95 is different.

My Roadmaster, my former Fleetwood and my 4 Auroras would run just sitting in the garage. No so with the Riviera.
