im 16 and i got my first riv! I PAY IT ALL MYSELF

love this site and love the cars!! im only 16 but i have a good job and my dads a mechanic. bought my first riviera this summer for $150. its hit 5 deer.both air bags have gone off and both front fenders are bad and the right rear quarter is rusting..motor was locked up with 243,000 miles. everything else on inside of car works awesome. heated seats cd changer tape everything. The air bags are being redone and reset by the factory so that will also be fixed. DOES NOT HAVE SALVAGE TITLE so slowly but surely were makin progress on'er. NEW motor with Almost new supercharger. we're building the motor before we drop it in the car. pulley, cold air, programmed ecm, cat back exhaust(not loud fart can style, throaty and suttle) next up is replacing the fenders and quarter and having her repainted. then rims and hopefully by summer she will be ready!! to beautiful of a car to let get crushed

Since your dads a mechanic and you seem to be excited about rebuilding it , I say go for it. What year is it? Year and eventually mods in your signature are helpful when you have questions.

With only $150 in the purchase price, you can spend a lot to get it fixed up right, without spending more than you might on one in much nicer shape. Sure helps that your dad is a mechanic also. Good luck and have fun with it!

You will gain a lot of experience with this project. I have bought a couple of cars in the past just so my sons could learn about cars while we worked on them together. One of the most important things to learn is safety, like proper jacking techniques and disconecting the battery during certain projects. The 9th gen Riv is a complex vehicle with a high level of engineering, there are other cars that might be more suitable for someone starting out. If your dad works with you and you learn from him, then you can't go wrong! Good Luck and please post pics

everything is possible just takes time. would like to see how bad dos it look at the moment.
have rebuilded many cars whit my dad. even of this car he made a limo ....just time and monney is all you need.
