Hey Everybody! Empty
PostSubject: Hey Everybody!   Hey Everybody! EmptyWed Oct 08, 2008 2:21 am

Thanks for running a great forum. I am kind of new to Rivieras, having bought my first one a little over a year ago, a '64 with factory dual quads and lots of options. I joined the ROA (#11625) and have learned a lot about it and all years of Rivs. At first I didn't pay much attention to the 9th gen. Rivs but was interested in the Supercharged script on the trunk lid. About a month ago I saw an add on craigslist.com about a 1999 Brt. Wht. Diamond Met. with 29,000mi. on it! The add had just been posted and I knew I should act fast. After a test drive and a good looking over I bought it and then told my wife. I don't recomend doing that. Anyway I plan on learning about my new car and plan to make some tasteful mods. I will post some pics when I figure out how. Thanks again.

Congrat's on the find.
Do you mind me asking how much you had to pay for it? The 99 that is.
I won't even ask what the 64 cost. Nice cars!!!!
By the way, nice part of the country you live in. I spent 10 months there on business in 1999. Spring thru Fall. Rented a furnished condo with garage, had my motorcycle shipped out and got to enjoy some of the Pacific coast and the Cascades. The best long term assignment I ever had.

Tim, welcome aboard and congrats on BOTH your Rivs! How's the paint holding up on the 99? The bright white diamond has a tendency to peel, esp on the front of the hood, and the door handles tend to yellow. MIne is only peeling a bit on the back of the trunk lid, SO FAR.

For posting pics, host them somewhere like photobucket.com and then you just post the link to the image there.

Thanks for the warm welcome. hi I paid $7650 for the '99, which I thought was a great deal because the car appeared "mint", but like almost every other used car I have purchased in the past, I can find one or two spots where some body work has been performed. That may explain why the paint looks so good. The previous owner was an 82 year old lady, who bought the car new. I think she might have bumped the garage opening a few times, (there were streaks of what looked like latex paint on the dr. side bumper and rear view mirror.) So I feel like I got a good deal.
The car only had two issues I felt needed imediate attention: the brakes- turned the rotors and added Wagner Ultra Quiets, and the front struts, which I replaced with KYB GR-2's, I am happy with both upgrades. The rest of the car is super clean, especialy the interior!
Oh yah, the front lower spoiler needs to be replaced. I'm open to any suggestions. I'll probablly use the dealership if I can't find it online.
As far as the '64, I will post some pics within the week I hope.

Does anyone know where we can get a front spoiler? Are we limited to junk yard used or can new be purchased?

I would expect the dealer would still be able to source an oem spoiler. The plus being you pay no freight charges for them to bring it in. Or try gmpartsdirect.com

$7650 is a steal for a 99 with 29k on the odometer, very nice buy.

Welcome to the forum,Tim. cheers
I share your experience with a first generation Riv as I have a '65' as well. I was fortunate enough to go to the Riv Nationals this year and win a first place for my '65'. I've been to 2 Riv Nationals and had the only Seafoam Green example both times. It might be a rare color?

Thanks for the tip to Ed's site, his ebay store is well organized. I didn't see anything I needed but it looks like a great resorce. I will put in a request for the spoiler and see what comes up.

That's a sweet '65! That color works well with those lines. Mine was originaly Arctic white but was repainted Burgundy. It has the deluxe sadle int. with the woodgrain steering wheel. I am planning on going to Sacramento next year for the ROA Nat. Meet. That reminds me, I need to put in my reservation.

I talked to the guys at Morad's earlier today about some parts including the front spoiler's. I was told they just trash them because they are cheap enough to get new. I don't know if thats true or not cause I've not asked the dealer.
I didn't think they were available from the dealer after looking for one on GMPARTSDIRECT.COM and other parts sites.
If they are not available any more from GM I'm going to call Morad's and ask them to save me a good one.

Update:
I picked up the spoiler and they only charged me $50 because it was dirty. They also had the fasteners for a buck apiece.

If you didn't live so far away I'd ask you to get me one of those $50.00 spoilers.
I need one also but have yet to check with my local stealership.
You got a great deal.

FYI they have those fasteners at most NAPA for even less. Bring in an old one and they'll find either an exact replacement or something close enough. They have a wide selection.
