I think this would be a neat way to mod the look of the Riv's interior and it looks similar but I'm not sure it's not different in some way. Would this fit in place of our OEM shifter knob?

Did you try to or something else? How do you know it won't?

I would think it would fit. Most shifter handles , at least on GMs are interchangeable from my experiences.

You are right! I have a T handle shifter I "borrowed" from a 91 Grand Am. Looks pretty good too!

Ah got ya. I was trying to find a wood shift knob and it seems Lexus makes some beautiful wood shifters but they don't have push button releases so they're a no go. All I found was a somewhat tacky looking T-looking shifter that is completely wood (The button too, just looks silly if you ask me)
Universal T-shaped wood shifter
Something about it just seems tacky in the Riv.

This would look nice but again, no buttons on it

And this would look good, but same problem

If it doesn't work you can always sell it on eBay.

I like having the lock for the main reason that I stick the car in neutral at lights to smoothen any vibrations from the car being in drive. While it seems rather stupid, I wouldn't rule out a chance that I bump it and put it into reverse. Worse yet, sometimes I pop it into neutral while rolling (usually when pulling up to said light). There's the risk I would push too far and slide it into reverse while going forward and then destroy the transmission.

In essence this is one safety feature that's there for good reason. The only way you don't need a lock is if you have that funky pattern to keep the shifter from moving in a straight line (The Jaguar's J-gate design comes to mind). It was simply a neat idea of mine, I thought something like those Lexus style shifters with the button in the front similar to the CTS shifter's design would look good in the Riv but I see surprisingly there aren't any out there so I guess I'll just have to leave it as it is or use the CTS one (Which seems a bit out of place with that shiny chrome and aluminum look it has going - fine for the CTS which has that in the interior but not the Riv which has none of it).

Shintsu - you can get rid of those stopped vibrations by repairing your motor/transmission mounts with stock durometer poly (kinda soft) or replacing them.

Riv won't vibrate stopped in drive at idle if the mounts are good.

Just an FYI.

I gathered it was probably something of the sort but I fear the same problem we had with our Park Avenue when we had it. It had a completely bad mount (allowed the motor to rise up and knock back when you went over speed bumps). I think there were three mounts, two were easy to get to one was not. My dad gambled and tried one of the front ones. Nope. Tried the other front one. Nope. It was the back one that cost the most. So he just said forget it at that point.

Given this isn't a major issue, only a slight annoyance I've mostly just put up with it. If I could gurantee which one is bad and do it somewhat easily I would but I don't think it would be and I honestly don't think it's worth the time since it's not that bad.

...or you could simply have a mechanic replace it.

...in my experience the Riv's mounts are good for about 75,000 miles or so then they are wack. And the weird thing is, it's the lower tranny mount (looks like a rubber star) goes first then the rest follow. If they'd have used low durometer urethane for the lower one in the first place, probably none of the other ones would get so beat up.

..I heard of someone filling the voids in that back lower mount with urethane window caulk and being happy with the improvement, but I have no details and no experience with that fix. Sounds "rube goldberg-esque" to me.
