One of the pulleys must be bad. Feel them up for wobble.

Yes, it happened to me once. I slipped it back on and it never happened again. Could have been a piece of debris, water, etc. IF it does happen again, Bert could be right - might have a problem.

What year Riv? The earlier models won't run long without the SC belt on as it also runs accessories. The later models have only the supercharger running off that belt. Not a big problem if you have to run w/o a belt, other than huge loss of power.

I'd think he would know right away if it were a Series I engine. Would lose power steering and some other functions immediately.

Along those lines, I've had my supercharger belt break and it scared the shit out of me. It broke and was stuck on a pulley banging on the inside of my motor, I thought I threw a rod! So glad to open the hood and see the broken belt! I didn't lose any other functions, just the supercharger. I replaced the tensioner pulley this weekend. Not to bad of a job and it was not freely moving back and forth so it needed to be done. I also finished up the tune up and put the wires on. AC Delco of course! I am still hearing a chirping sound while idling. I have already replaced two pulleys so far and I think I only have one left to swap out.
