3rd (center) brake light bulb & socket Empty
PostSubject: 3rd (center) brake light bulb & socket   3rd (center) brake light bulb & socket EmptyWed Jun 17, 2009 9:05 pm

Currently, I have 1156 bulbs for the 3rd brake light.
The sockets both have melted contacts.

Are the wrong bulbs in there? I don't see a part number in the manual for those bulbs. Now I have to get new sockets but I don't want to put a bulb thats too hot in and burn it up again it if that's the case.

Mine has 1156 bulbs for 3rd brake light.
I replaced one recently, no burned sockets though.
You can try the LED equivalent, they use less current.

Socket contacts might have melted from one or more times the lights were on way too long for whatever reason. I'd just replace sockets. Problem with LED bulbs is you have to get ones that will work with the 3rd brake light reflector, might be some trial and error in that.

http://www.superbrightleds.com/tail-brake-turn.html has fight-angle LED 1156's.

These surface-mount superbright ones might work much better but they are $60 the pair (Owtch!)

http://www.urban-neon-car-lights.com/car-lights/1156-ledbulb.html

...might be able to find 'em somewhere else cheaper.

In comparison, RockAuto sells the incandescent 1156 bulbs for $0.52 each in paks of 10.
