PostSubject: Car Trouble   Car Trouble EmptyWed Aug 12, 2009 6:57 pm

Omg guys.....The Riviera is acting up... I need your opinions.....So I moved the car today and it started up fine.....it moved and everything. I just tried to start it up and I believe the battery died on me...frown...This what happened.....I turned the key and no crank....all the gauges looked dim.....and the odometer gauge lights were flashing.....for a little while and came back on.... I heard a little rattle under the hood....The only reason I can think of is the battery?.....any other experiences u guys?

What is the battery voltage reading with key off.?
You can test voltage reading from under hood connector on passenger side fender well or go directly to battery under rear seat.
Then check with key ON. Report results.

You can also try turning on your headlamps with the key on. Are they bright or dim?
And what's the Battery voltage under a load.?

Have you looked at the belts. Specifically the accessory belt driving your alternator.
Is it still on, is it slipping at all?

Sounds like a weak battery and you need a jump start. How long has it been sitting? What is the voltage before you jump it and after it is running?

If voltage is below 10.5V, try jumping and see if it holds a charge. If not, replace battery.

If you still have the problem with flashing gauges, check the headlight bulbs. Have you upgraded the headlamps with aftermarket?

Must be something goin' around....
I just had to replace my battery yesterday...
Got in on Tuesday... barely started. Pulled the seat, cleaned the terminals (battery still showed green in window), started up and took an hour drive. On the way back, stopped at my mechanics place and again barely started. Had my mechanic test... failed load test.
Battery was only able to hold 10.7v.
$127.00 later I was rollin with a new battery.
Broke and happy....

if you had the original battery, it was about time.
