Exhaust Cutouts Empty
PostSubject: Exhaust Cutouts   Exhaust Cutouts EmptyThu Jan 21, 2016 4:56 pm

Anyone know of any other company that makes boost activated exhaust cutouts other than soundperformance?
http://www.spracingonline.com/store/category.php?sub=111

I am sure they are great pieces but so dang expensive.

I really dont want an electric cutout because of moving parts, motor, open/close lag, etc. but from what ive searched soundperformance is the only one making these?

Not trying to spend ~$500 on an exhaust mod. Anyone have any other solutions for boost activated exhaust cutouts? heart

Too expensive? But they're "on sale", lol!

Personally I'd do electric if it were mine. The new Lotus Evora uses electric from the factory. Pretty cool feature.

My '69 Rambler Rebel had a mechanical exhaust valve to feed exhaust to a heat riser on the air intake.  I never did look at the thing hard to learn what it really did, wasn't interested at the time.  Point is, you might want to look at https://www.google.com/search?q=exhaust+manifold+heat+riser+bypass&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 and see if that would be a gizmo that you think could be modified to make a mechanical bypass somewhat downstream in the exhaust. The problem will be that they have a notoriously fragile spring. I'm just saying that if you think hard enough, there might be a way to use the gizmo - perhaps by removing the spring and rigging a pulley and aircraft cable to operate it.

ATPTURBO.COM is another one I came across while searching for other options for boost-actuated cutouts but they weren't stocking the parts. Looks to still be the case now..

I don't like electric anymore for the same reasons charlie mentioned and that they just seem to fail either intermittently or absolutely too soon and for whatever reason they more often fail open than closed. I had a QTP one and had that issue. I thought I was just unlucky but others seem to have a lot of trouble with electric across the board. With OEM exhaust tech going in the direction it is, I could see all variations of this stuff getting better though.
