In the passenger compartment, passenger side behind the glove box. That's where it is on my 98.

Remove the glove box completely, only abot 5 screws and it is very accessible. That is of course if yours is in the same location

Why are the same questions in two different post's.
Stop it, that's confusing to us mere mortals.

with a 1995 riv do you have to take the PCM to the dealer to get it programmed or does it just have to match.

bigriv0, Matt was saying the best place to get a FSM (Factory Service Manual) was from Ebay. Ebay motors to be exact. Look under Parts and Accessories then click on Manuals. Plug in your info and you will find a manual set (for your year, it consists of two books) used from anywhere between $20.00 and $50.00.
If you don't see any right away for the right $$$ keep looking. A week from now you might see a "buy it now" for $25.00, then grab it.
The FSM is 500% better than what you bought at the auto parts store. It's what the dealerships use and has the best info you can get. If you can afford it and you plan on keeping the car and doing all the work yourself then you can also subscribe to Alldatadiy.com. It has a lot of the exact same info yet also has tech data that the manual doesn't have or is presented better and easier to understand. I believe it also has all the Service Bulletins that the FSM does not have and are normally only available to the dealers. You can buy a subscription for your year car for either one year's access or for a little more money multiple year access. Having both the FSM and AllData is the best of both worlds. Even if your going to pay someone to do some of the work on your car it is beneficial to copy the data that a Mech needs from the FSM or download / print from All Data. If they bother to read it they have no excuse for not finding or fixing the problem. And the more you read about the Description and Operation (D&O) of the various systems on your car the more you can speak intelligently about a problem your having with a Technician and the more respect you'll get from them

on the 95 remove the black plastic panel under the glovebox 7mm screws. and look up and you will see the pcm clipped in by two plastic clips, remove the 3 wire connectors to the pcm and slide it straight down.
the obd 1 computer does not need any programming. you have to reuse your old eprom though.

I'm reviving this thread based on the fact that I have to replace the pcm in my 95 now that it's throwing a quad driver module 1 failure code (P1640)

I see it said here that you don't need to reprogram a new pcm? But must use original eprom? I'm a noob to the pcm aspect of these cars as obviously tuning and the like has been a moot point for me mostly, I guess my questions are

How do I go about ordering the 'correct', 'matching' pcm replacement?

And

What's necessary to install the new one correctly?

Hoping not to take to the shop

I think any 95 Riviera PCM will work. I dont think its at all a common problem so I would try pulling one from a junk yard. They're easy to swap in so I would think its worth a try. If you plan on tuning your Riv, you may even want to consider mounting the PCM upside down so you can get to the EProm more easily. As far as getting it out and removing the EProm, it only takes like 5-10 min. I kind of explain how it comes out here:
