95 SC - Temp Gauge Drops Empty
PostSubject: 95 SC - Temp Gauge Drops    95 SC - Temp Gauge Drops EmptyMon Sep 29, 2014 4:06 pm

When I'm driving on the X-Way, the Temperature Gauge drops from 200 to 100 when I let off of the accelerator. I can also feel a... stutter in my acceleration. Recently replaced Water Pump, Thermostat, Gasket and was advised to replace Radiator Cap but didn't. Recent Flush also. been seeing "possible cracked head" online... HELP!

How quickly does it drop? Sounds like a bad ground or moving wire harness with a brittle or broken wire to me.

Coolant temp doesn't change that quickly. It's possible you are dealing with some other problem. If you are getting a lot of air in the coolant there could be other issues as well.

Did the gauge show the drop before you replaced the cooling system components?

95 SC - Temp Gauge Drops Empty
PostSubject: Re: 95 SC - Temp Gauge Drops    95 SC - Temp Gauge Drops EmptyTue Sep 30, 2014 7:19 pm

I noticed the hiccup Monday morning while doing 70mph, only when I let up off the acceleration. On my way home from work I noticed the Temp Gauge was dropping when I let up off the accelerator. I put some Lucas in yesterday and the hiccup is still there but less often... the Temp Gauge still drops to 100 when I let up off the accelerator... also... neither symptom starts until I've drove a mile or two... Dealer say they don't know how to fix nothing over 12 years old... I'm in Northern Detroit suburbs... anyone close?

How quickly does the temp drop? It could have an air bubble in there, did you bleed the thermostat housing after you replaced the water pump and stuff? There is a small bleeder screw on top of the thermostat housing.

I've been through a lot of stuff on mine. One of the symptoms is the temp gauge being inop and misfiring while cruising. It's gotten somewhat better with all of the work I've been doing on refreshing the grounds and replacing connectors. I still think that the ignition switch is causing the misfire and the temp gauge to be inop. Also, my shift indicator began flashing. I have no codes stored in my ECU, though. Ignition switch problems are a common cause of a lot of mystery symptoms, it appears.
