It is hard to believe he bumped the output of the 5.0 litre from 140 to 375 ! It's not impossible, but you would need to change EVERYTHING on the olds 307 to get it to make that kind of power.

id have to second this statement. especially if it had a stock cam and heads. It would take a really hot cam and pretty good heads with all the other mods you described to make a larger 350ci make that power (in that gen., not LS1, etc.)

but like jason said, its possible i guess

its not possible, i had one....the only way it would be possible is with a turbo and one hell of a custom carb. The engine will most likely take a turbo since the pistons are dished with our same 3800 bore... I blew mine up with a ghetto fab. ram air.

I just got an offer to buy a 1981 Riv with the 307' for $250.

I plan to move on that one, though theres no way the 307 got anywhere near 375hp, even if that was a typo meaning 275 i'd question it for sure.

307
A 307 cu in (5 L) version was produced from 1968 through 1973. Engine bore was 3.875 inches (98.4 mm) with a 3.25-inch (82.6 mm) stroke.
The 307 replaced the 283 in Chevrolet cars and produced 200 hp (149 kW) SAE gross at 4600 rpm and 300 lb·ft (407 N·m) of torque at 2400 rpm in the 1960s. The later emissions-modified versions produced just 115 hp (86 kW) SAE net, giving the engine one of the lowest power-per-displacement ratings of all time. Chevrolet never produced a high-performance version of this engine, though they did produce, for Outboard Marine Corporation, a high-performance marinized 307, rated at 235 hp (175 kW) and 245 hp (183 kW) SAE gross, depending on year, that shipped with the Corvette/Z-28's cast aluminum valve covers and Rochester QuadraJet carb. Chevy also built other versions of the OMC 307 rated at 210 hp (157 kW), 215 hp (160 kW) and 225 hp (168 kW) SAE gross.

That is the chevy 307. The oldsmobile 307 is based on the Olds block, from the '80s. They put them in tons and tons of cars, nearly every RWD Olds had a 307 available.

Once again.. I wish people would know what they are talking about before claiming something is impossible.

http://www.superchevy.com/technical/engines_drivetrain/cams_heads_valvetrain/sucp_0604_chevy_engine_performance/index.html

Here is a 307 making 315hp at 5,200 rpm and 330 lb-ft torque at 3,800 rpm. Keep in mind that was with a relatively mild bottom end as well. Bumping the CR up a bit would have really woken that engine up for sure.

Now slap on a plate kit and you're in the 400's easily.

I'm not saying it's the wisest choice and the most economical versus just building a 355, 383 or 396 smallblock, but it can be done. Though if I had the dough to blow, I'd build a 454 smallblock, slap on some valve covers with "350" embossed and go hunting.

This is a chevy 307, not to be confused with the Olds 307 the discussion is centered around. Of course an Olds 307 could be built up as well, although parts availability is slim, but this isn't one of them.

it's the second time I had to steer that mid 80's 307 discussion back to Oldsmobile. No looking like an ass though, we all do it from time to time! It's all good!
