Check out rivman99's write up "custom paint job". He shows how most parts come off and even part # of clips and hardware you may need. This is an excellent write up and you could save alot of time by reading it before you take your car apart.

Thanks for mentioning my write-up on the paint job; I hope it has been/is helpful for someone out there.

PostSubject: Need to identify a color.   Fri Apr 27, 2012 1:16 am

I have a galaxy note, and LOVE the trim color. It looks like a dark obsidian chrome type color, but I have no idea wtf to call it. I'm considering repainting my car this color, but maybe a bit darker. Yourthoughts? and what is this color called? It would really help if you've seen the Note in person to know what I'm talking about. I tried spraying a mirror finish on top of satin black to replicate but failed. I really want this color, but I think it's probably not going to ever happen, and doubt they have an actual color like this. I think it would be so awesome to have a dark chrome mirror at day, but still look black at night :3

To get that color on your car is very difficult! you first have to paint the car with that new chrome paint, Very expensive then do a tinted clear coat. hope that helps.

I think it would be HOT but at the same time a little hard to drive in the sun with all the glare cool

Hmm, I wonder how bad the glare would be on the hood lol. How bad is it with a mirror finish black gloss coat?

and yeah, I'd love that color, would be super unique, and might turn too many heads though razz

There was a deep cherry color used on the late '90s Impalas and Rivieras. Very rare, but I've seen Rivs in this color. Looks like black, but with a red tint in the right light... one of my favorite colors!

And you can never go wrong with black.

My Mom's '97 Bonneville SSE is dark metallic cherry red. Looks awesome in person smile

And that grey Audi is cool but I'm going either satin black or dark chrome tint paint :p

Cadillac candy pearl white with your favorite color add to it... its going to be mostly pearl until the light hits it right then it would blend into secondary color. you could put a few colors in so the different angels would be different colors you know are curves on the rivi would show them off

Definitely my favorite. The performance, stereo, and looks (design and color) are the reason I still have it at 270,000 miles.

PostSubject: Paint color and availability   Sun Jul 29, 2012 8:11 pm

Anyone know if anyone makes touch up spray paint for a 1995 Riviera? The paint code is U9795. I have never been able to even find what this color is called! According to GM it is green/gray but sure looks blue to me.

Was this used on any other cars? Under what number and name? It may have been used on some Corvettes. I am at a total loss on this.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Duplicolor typically makes almost every paint color out there in a touch-up form. Use the paint code you have and you can cross-reference it to duplicolors part numbers. Very few times have I gotten their paint and it hasn't matched.

...the other thing you can do is have a can made up, if you can get Dupli-Color don't bother but if you can't it works fine -- you can ask at a car dealer parts desk or a body shop near you which paint store will make up a "rattle can" for you. In my area the paint shop that does won't sell to the public BUT a parts store near them will get the paint (from them wink ) for you and sell it to you, ends up a large "rattle can" of custom paint costs about $20.

Just put it up for sale, I thought it would be really neat too to have the production #'s and some sense of the rarity of the vehicle to share with prospective buyers.

Ok, my bad, I put a 5 in the v.i.n. decoder for where there should have been a S. With just moving over these four options, there was 30 made....

554 - TRIM COMBINATION LEATHER, MUSHROOM (4) (94) (554)
L67 - ENGINE GAS, 3.8L(3.8 1), SFI, V6, SUPERCHARGED 3.8 1(L67)
R6A - CONTROL SALES ITEM NO. 01
91U - EXTERIOR COLOR, PRIMARY, LIGHT PLUM MET (91U

Neat!

Where is the trim tag on my '98 and how do I read it? On the ROA website I don't see the option for White Pearl. I'm sure that's what color mine is. I do see listed Code 78 Bright White Diamond Metallic. Is that what Buick refered to the white pearl as?

I have a 1998 Buick Riviera dealer brochure. There were 2 whites, Bright White (16), and Bright White Diamond Tri Coat (78). What does the sticker under the spare tire cover say?

There are like 40 pairs of numbers on it. I have no idea what to look for. You saw it, so it is the diamond, right?
