Could GMs Hydra-Matic 6T70 6-speed automatic transmission be made to work in our Rivs?

I'm thinking a major obsticle would be controlling it. I'm not an expert but I don't think the stock PCM would be able to support that transaxle. I actually think the 6-spd getrag manual out of say a new G6 gtp or gxp (whichever it is) would be more doable. But as far as bolting up to the bell housing and fitting axles and such, I don't know.

I'm not trying to shoot it down but I don't think our engine needs a transmission like that anyway. An advanced 6-spd auto suites the cars and light trucks that have engines with stronger top end power and not as much torque off throttle, especially that are striving more better fuel economy. Having more gears that are closer together in ratio is good for keep an engine that has a relatively narrow torque band in its ideal power range. The 3800 makes its power in a wide range of engine speed and actually kind of looses power up top in stock form.

Just stuff to think about..

According to wikipedia, that 6T70 is good for 280ft-lb of torque out of the box. I'm sure that would be fine for a stock riv but we can pass that mark easy with modding. There may be upgrades for that transmission to make it stronger but they are probably harder to find and certainly more expensive.

I was thinking the same thing about the flat torque curve. Our cars can hold 1st gear to 55 mph and 2nd to 99 mph (with mods). I'm not so sure I'd want to change that!

I like the 4 spd with the 3800 SC as it reminds me of older (early to mid 60's) senior GM vehicles with big block engines. They just push you back in the seat and leave you there with an occasional shift.

I rented an annoying Toyota Camry 2 weeks ago with 6 spd auto and 4 cyl. It ran well and was peppy, but all the jerks you have to put up with to keep the 4 banger in its torque curve.......

I think Nissan calls it 'shift shock', lol...
