KR change with traction control button? Empty
PostSubject: KR change with traction control button?   KR change with traction control button? EmptySun Jun 12, 2011 12:21 pm

On my 1999 riviera - Just finished installing 180 t-stat, Autolite 104's, PRJ wires, gutted airbox, 3 inch downpipe, and ZZP pulley system with 3.5" on it. Scanned it, and KR goes all over the place, up to 8!

On a whim, I turned off traction control, and KR went down to 2 or 3 under acceleration, which is still too much. Guess I'll be buying a 3.6" pulley.

Has anyone ever heard of KR being affected by the traction control?

Thanks!

yes. when i have a lot of wheel spin and traction control is trying to pull timing to control it i will see KR spikes.
When are you seeing this KR? top of 1st, top of 2nd? all the time?

If you are just seeing blips at the top of each gear thats not that bad for a 3.5 pulley in the summer.

I am going to assume you have all the maintenance items done on the car (fuel filter for instance) and you are running 93 octane.

I hooked up Genesys to the car and went for a drive...at idle, there was no KR, about 1-2 with casual driving, and up to 8 at WOT going through the gears.

After turning off the Traction Control, it would go up to just under 4KR while going through the gears under WOT.

I was never spinning the tires, so I was surprised the traction control made a difference.

you shouldnt be seeing ANY KR at idle or with normal driving. Maybe you are getting false KR or else the motor just isnt running 100%.

what grade gas are you using?

3 degrees isn't that dangerous.... I've pulled 3 @ WOT when I was stock once or twice. 0 is nice, but I don't see you killing anything at only 3.

What are you running for fuel (octane level)? Fuel pump performance adequate? Fuel filter clean?

Did you scan the car before you made the modifications? If not, there might have been KR beforehand. This could be a maintenance issue, not related to the mods.

Were the conditions exactly the same between the scans with TC on and off? Same ambient temp, same location, same fuel? If not, there could be other variables to consider. Were you able to repeat the results for TC on/off to isolate it as the change that directly caused the decease in KR?

4* KR at WOT isn't going to hurt a thing...you're just gonna lose HP. Don't know why your seeing more KR with the TC on though. That doesn't make sense....

2 thoughts:
I have virtually the same engine mods and in warm weather I can get spurts of 5 degrees or so at WOT, and I'm usually running "Cali 91" octane, so you're in the ballpark. What's your octane and what was the weather like?

Unless the car was really running badly, the front tires are gonna' break loose in 1st and either you or the TC have to prevent spin... Depending on when you were looking at the readout, I suspect that you might be seeing less KR with the TC off because your right foot is automatically performing traction control duties. burnout
