out the filler neck where the nozzle goes in???

that's odd indeed....

i suspect you might have a leak in the neck but i'll let the experts chime in. or you have poor gas station service in your area. if memory serves

:\

Have your 'representatives' forced new nozzles down your throat?

Out here in MexiFornia, the POS Air Resources Board has forced a new generation of vapor-recovery nozzles on us that not only added 10 cents/gallon to the price, but the damned things are so FUBAR that they had to remove the lock-on clips from them because they can cause overflows and fires...

Typical: Vapor-recovery nozzles that cause more overflows than the old, paid-for ones... clap

I must mention my fuel gauge is not working properly. My dad replaced the fuel pump and i think he forgot to put the float all the way down because when it is full it is at 1/4 and then it drops down to e after a little while and stays there. Then when i fill it up again it goes back to 1/4 so i will tear that apart next week to see if that is the problem with the gauge but i really want to find out about the gas shooting out cause it is gonna get paint in two weeks and i dont want gas to get on my brand new custom paint job!

Uh, you didn't drop the tank to do that fuel pump job, did you ?

I only ask because the tank has a ball-valve to prevent overflow into the vent-circuit... But if you only removed the "fuel-module" via the panel in the trunk, then it shouldn't apply.

It sounds like your EVAP Vent System is clogged/frozen/stuck/inop. If the system is closed all the time, the tank will build pressure, especially when filling up, causing the fuel puke. I would have the EVAP system tested for function.

As for the fuel gauge, did your dad replace the whole unit or did he simply replace the pump itself?

My FSM says that when doing any work on the fuel system, the fuel pressure should be eliminated first, any chance you guys didn't do that when replacing the fuel pump?

how do you test the EVAP system?

As for the fuel pump. Is the sending unit on the pump or not if so we took the whole pump assembly with everything attached out of one of the parts cars and put it in my car

There is a pressure relief valve on the fuel rail, similar to that on a tire. Cover the valve with shop towels and depress the valve to release pressure.

Relieving fuel pressure before servicing the fuel system is a safety concern. The fuel pressure would be relieved as soon as your father disconnected the fuel line at the tank if he did not do so before hand. I believe the recommended procedure to relieve fuel pressure is to remove fuel pump fuse and crank vehicle for a few seconds.

I'm getting confused. The "fuel puke" is simply when filling the tank, right - nothing to do with depressurizing the engine side of the system?

As far as the gauge goes, if you replaced the whole 'module' then yes, you replaced the sending unit as well.
When these things wear out, they read Full when they get down below a half-tank, so I agree that your float is probably bent out of whack... To regain that 3/4 of a tank that it's not reading, you'll have to bend the float downward in increments to find the right angle - not a fun job.

Here is a photo of what it should look like in general, to get you in the zone:

The fuel puke only happens when filling up. I will fill up again tonight and see what happens, but i havent done anything since then besides cleaning up my coil pcks and ignition module. O yah and my check engine light is back on. I am going to get a new coil pack/ignition module to fix that problem but we will see what happens tonight!

Eldo, you are correct and confused. No clue how relieving the fuel pressure came in to play, but it's irrelevant to neb's concern.

neb, it sounds like the Fuel Pump Module you swapped from a different car has a bad level sensor on it, or in rare cases, the gauge itself is going poo poo. This is nbd for the time being. Relieving fuel pressure, or lack thereof, has absolutely no bearing on the level sensor, nor the fuel shooting out of the filler neck. Get that thought out of your mind please Gas shoots out from tank? Twak

I forgot to ask this before....have you put fuel in the tank since installing the "new" fuel sender without a problem? or has this been happening ever since you put it in?

I mentioned the fuel pressure relief procedure only because I didn't want neb soaking a rag with gasoline under the hood of his car (accident waiting to happen). After reading more of this topic, I agree that this is not at all related to his problem. His problem is related to the venting of his fuel tank or condition of his filler neck. I would recommend inspecting the filler neck first since that is something he can do himself.

Well guys i fueled up today. I could tel it wanted to come shooting out and it kind of did but it didnt get on the body or anything just a little bit by the filler neck.

Abadonn. I cant remember if fuel came out before i did the fuel pump. since i only fueled up once after i bought it and i think my dad did it. i may remeber gas coming out but im not sure. This has happened since we changed it. So i guess that doesnt really help.
