Auto dimming rear view Empty
PostSubject: Auto dimming rear view   Auto dimming rear view EmptyWed May 02, 2012 9:12 pm

My auto dimming mirror was going out when I bought my car. It is dark and slowly losing the dark color. My question is how do they look when they are good? Do they start out looking like a normal mirror or the dark color?

They look like a normal mirror when the autodim is not activated. Shine a bright light in the sensor (such as car headlights from behing) and it turns dark smile .

I've seen them fail both normal and dark.

Thank you. I happened to find one at the local scrap yard but it was dark. Just didn't know If the solid color meant it was good. Mine has been mostly dark with a normal color slowly making it's way down from the top.

Yeah I'd say neither of them are good lol. Hard to find a nice one from that era of cars. Keep looking, you'll find one. Perhaps someone can chime in and mention what other cars the mirrors can come from?

The auto dimming mirror is defintely one of the great features of the Riviera. Some newer more expensive luxury cars don't even have them.

That and many other crazy luxury features makes the Riv an insane value for the money in the used market.

My driver's side mirror has autodim on my 1995 model and I see it's starting to leech in with brown crap similar to old antique mirrors.

I got one from a 98 STS Cadillac at the pick-n-pull. Compass and autodim both work well. It was plug-and-play on my 95, with the flat plug.

My guess is the same-vintage cadillac STS, DTS, Deville; the Buick Park Ave, and the Bonneville might be donors. Also you might want to contact Ed Morad moradpartscompany.com
