I just recently bought the ol lady a 1997 Riviera and have gave it a tune up(dumb motor mount designed to prevent simply belt change shout )and made a CAI
Really think that it needs some wheels and window tint than back to some more MODS

I wanted some Torque Thrust II's but the local wheel place here says that they quit making them for front wheel drives:(
Welcome to ideas/suggestions?

Paint looks like its in great condition!

I wouldn't put anything too fancy on a Riv for wheels.

congrats on getting a nice riv! what are your mod plans? and what all did you "tune up"? that term can be kinda vague, depending on which mechanic you speak to wink

I changed the belts, fuel filter, oil&filter, radiator fluid flush added a 160 stat, trans flush and changed the supercharger oil out.
Went with some Taylor plugwires and copper plugs gapped @.55.
Got an EBAY CAI to replace the factory airbox and paper filter.
As far as MODS,been looking on here to try to figure out a game plan. Want a different exhaust maybe just some mufflers. Thinking a pulley change is in the future and really got to do something with the factory computers tune.
Is there anyway to get the fans to come on sooner? Like in the old TPI cars you can buy a coolant fan switch and the early LT1 cars u can do a bypass trick in the underhood fuse box to cut them on.

As far as the paint goes I just used the clay bar on it. That really smooths and shines even my clear coat challenged paint on this car.lol

Just some 17's for the buick is all I was looking to do,something along the lines of the Torque Thurst II's.

American Racing has something similar to the TTII called "Aero" for FWD cars.

You can have the fans come on sooner if you have someone tune it in the PCM.

I think there was someone on here that put a fan switch in too but that might have been a regal. Maybe they will chime in.

the 96's can run both fans by turning on the a/c or heat wink

hi. Welcome to the forum. I think you should know that the stock riviera's PCM knock retard activation temperature is 158 degrees. If your coolant temp is below 158 F, the engine isn't really monitoring knock. you can read about it here I don't know how cold it gets where you live but it is something to look into if you have a stock pcm and a 160 deg tstat.

Also, judging by your photo, I think your air filter is too small. It looks like the kind that tapers to a point inside the metal "shield." You should look into building a cheapo FWI (fender well intake) with a larger k&n or s&b filter. I think Aaron said the k&n's were on special, but I would go for (at least) a 7" s&b "powerstack" type filter. An added bonus to the FWI is you won't be sucking up hot air.

nice looking car.

Nice catch by Jason. I ran a 160º t-stat for about a year. It took a while before I realized what was happening, but I was getting audible knock when ambient temps dropped below approx 65ºF. The 160º is good for the track, but for daily driving you should use caution when the air gets cooler.

Nice car, welcome to the site.

now thats hardcore. is your a/c and heat gone too?

i knew a guy daily driving an rx 7 with no ac, heat, power steering, and one hell of a stiff race clutch. 4-5K launches or it would stall.

PITA daily driver, but it hauled ass.

haha, i guess that 160 stat would be ideal for a south florida car!! i was actually just thinking about eliminating the stat period, just leave the outer shell so its not excessive...

I ran a 160 for a while. It' doesn't do what you think it does, and when it dips below 65 in winter, you could have a problem.

Thanks. There are a few others here that can roll just as quickly, or faster even. I think the more impressive part is that I've put over 100k modded miles on mine, and it hasn't broken yet. Drives like a stock Riv when I'm not on it.

Coolant flush is a good idea. A bottle of that Water Wetter stuff will help. But a 180º T-stat is good enough, the 160 is a bit overkill, even for very hot weather. With a 180, you'll see your temps go down to 180-190º most of the time. That's cool for a car!

A stock Riviera with Series II SC should run 0-60 mph in 8 secs, and complete the 1/4 mile in 15.5. Click here to see some fast Rivs:

LoL, thats some tight work man. goes to show thats someone knowin what there doin with their ride, over 100k just on the mods alone and ridin stock. i give u Dap
so i guess the 180 will do, good lookin out on that.
but yea that sounds about right, after i gutted the air box i tested the 0-60 and i had it down to 8.1 on the second try (first one was with traction control; was curious) but i eazed the gas 0-10 kuz other wise the tires woulda been spinnin all day. 15's for a stock ride in the 1/4 aint bad though...
