I understand that my speed is governed to about 110-115mph so my question is what's the remedy for that? And can I do anything with it without buying PCMs and such

109

Use a light throttle foot and keep OD engaged and you'll top that, but don't burn up the OD gear.

The only way to get past it is to disable it in the pcm. It is set at 108 because of the speed rating on the stock tires.

I thought the governor was like a centrifugal device on the trans or is that just old school stuff

Nope not in our cars. Aaron can confirm this because he has a powertuner, but there is a setting in the pcm where you can set the speed limiter.

Are you saying you can adjust the speed limit setting on any stock OBDII pcm or just the aftermarket ones ie. powertuner?

There is no need to replace your PCM if you get a tuner (aftermarket PCMs are just stock ones that have been reprogrammed). With a tuner, you keep the OEM (physicall), you just re-write the code. Since a PCM is just code, really, it's technically not stock after you do this.

OEM limit setting is 108 mph. With PowrTuner, mine's now at 168 mph (the speed rating of my tires), but it's still the original PCM unit, just has a new BIN pregram. All OBDI PCMs can be changed, as long as DHP (or another company) makes a BIN for it.

108? i think mine is 112 scratch lol i've heard if you use higher octane fuel and ease into it with OD on (like racefan said) it is possible to achieve a higher speed, but im never patient enough to slowly ease up to speed on highways. stock tires were S rated right? thats a max sustained speed of 112. (maybe thats where i got the 112 from). its difficult to see exactly where the speedo hits b/c it goes up then drops off fast when the limiter hits.

PostSubject: Re: Speed Governor   Speed Governor EmptyFri Mar 09, 2007 9:25 am

Some get going down a hill with the wind at their back, and may roll to higher speeds, but the cut-off is 108 mph.

Another big mistake people make (and probably the reason for this whole discussion) is to use their dash speedometer to monitor speed, which is often slightly off, more so the faster you go. For example, mine reads 70 mph when my scanner says 67. My tach is the same way. It's nearly impossible to align the needle and marks exactly during the assembly process.

Doesn't matter how slowly you ease into it, or what gear you're in... when the PCM sees 108, you're getting shut down. And going that fast on stock tires is completely nuts. Two of my OEM Michelins (the good ones) literally tore apart at 80 mph before I replaced the set. Junk tires, imo.

I think the Fusion HRIs are H-rated. Good up to 130 mph.

I agree. My bonnie with the HUD would always read a different reading between HUD and speedo. Lower readings the speedo was off until about 60 and then it was off again. I see a difference in the tach gauge too. Probably all analog guages are off to some degree. But I noticed my bonnie would calibrate the guages at each startup (go all the way up then all the way down and then to where it reads whatever it is reading.) Does the Riv do calibration of some sort?

I went up to sarasota for the weekend, which is about a two hour drive from my house, so I took i-75 which is a pretty wide open interstate. I haven't really gotten on my riv in a while, so I decided to open her up, I went from 70 to 100 no problem, then im coming up on 105, and it just cuts out completely, I try again, same thing.. Have any of you gotten over 105? or are riv's governed at 105?

I think they are about $4-500 not sure. ZZP or Intense sell PCMs for like $150? They could probably change that for you if you tell them when you order it.

You should see if someone near you has a tuner before you go out and spend money for one.
