| Recently I hit some railroad tracks a bit too fast. Ever since this "bump" my car has sounded different when idling/ low rpms. No performance issues. Recently found out that after I hit this bump my AC stopped working! No cold air. It seems to be getting worse, now there is a metallic sound at all low rpms as if something is scraping constantly and chirping etc. Any ideas? need a new AC unit? | |

| The first thing you should do is to check the AC compressor and belt to see if you knocked something loose. I wouldn't drive it too much before you find out what is broken and needs to be fixed. _________________ 1998 Supercharged Riviera - Custom CAI, Alpine spx-13ref, Infinity 6x9's, Alpine 4 Channel Amp, Kicker KX3, Silverstars, STB, Hawk Brake Pads, Monroe Air Shocks, KYB GR2

| Could be a lot of things. I might guess physical damage to the A/C clutch. | |

| I got it lifted and am looking around. Nothing looks damaged. I can spin the compressor without moving the belt a bit, is this supposed to happen? I can spin this fairly easily with some roughness to it besides the pulley with belt | |

| You're spinning the clutch, not the compressor. If the clutch was engaged, you wouldn't be able to turn it, period. Judging by all the what appears to be belt fibers and goo, it looks like that compressor has issues...and it should spin FREELY when not engaged, not rough. | |

| Makes sense. Yeah it's very-not-free-spinning. Sand-papery. Is there an easy way to take the clutch off to have a look at it? | |

| Personally, I've never taken one apart. We (at work) just replace the entire compressor. I know there's a way to service it, but I can't say exactly how.... | |

| Took the belt off, the pulley is rough spinning and it's got way too much play. Don't plan on keeping the car too much longer so I'm just getting a bypass pulley in on wednesday. Prep work? Anything I should know as far as bleeding the system goes | |

| Apparently the ones for the newer versions fit just need a washer for each of the bolts | |
