Patter around 40-50 mph Empty
PostSubject: Patter around 40-50 mph   Patter around 40-50 mph EmptyWed Jul 03, 2013 3:25 pm

So I just bought a SWEET 97 Riviera last week and the only real problem besides the stock radio dying the day after I bought it is every now and then when I am accelerating onto the highway there seems to be a little pattering of the transmission but this only happens briefly and less than 10 mph range, could that be sparks? Or should I go in and get my whole transmission looked at? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Very new to Riviera Life and LOVIN it! Thanks

Welcome! Have you done anything to the car yer or do you know who you bought it from? Depending on the miles, my first course of action would be a full tune up (air filter, fuel filter, plugs, wires, seafoam, oil change).

My guess is ignitionrelated.

Youbneed to catch up on the mmaintenance.

You need to make sure your coils are correct; the SC and NA engines have coils that can be interchanged but are not really interchangeable, the NA coils are weaker. If your plug wires are electrically leaky that could be a cause. If you have an sc enging and you are running regular gas that could ba an issue too. By all means check transmission fluid etc but i doubt its your issue. -

Mine did the same thing, 2 of my spark plugs were completely shot, and my wires were the original from factory, I got both spark plugs and wires, then cleaned the adapter they went to with a file, after that my car ran 100% better, good luck!

I'd replace the spark plug wires as a first step. Recommend using AC Delco or Packard Delphi (OEM). Good luck!
