Just bought my first Riviera after 50 years of lusting. My decision, back in 1963 was to buy a Corvette split window coupe (long story about loss) instead of a Riviera but I would always admire the beauty of the Buick. My new buy is a 1963, dark green (maybe called Spruce Green) with black leather interior. One owner car with 24,783 original miles. It has been sitting inside, climate controlled, storage for over 20 years. Paint is very good, no rust, upholstery has split threads on driver and front passenger seats. Starts, runs good - no smoking. Fuel tank drained of old fuel and replaced. Trans shifts well, brakes well (system drained and wheel cylinders rebuilt). But, it still has many problems- hopefully small i.e. not too expensive - of a 59 year old car that has been sitting for over 20 yrs. I'm now in the mode of bringing the car back to good driving condition and will be seeking advice from this forum as I progress. I'm really happy to be a Riviera owner, a member of a group of like minded, and look forward to enjoying my car. I'm located in the Monterey California area.

Congrats, and Welcome thumbsup

This is a great forum and a great bunch of guys but for the 1963 Riviera you might want to check out the AACA Riviera Owners Association forum, here is the link ...

http://forums.aaca.org/f177/

And also a good investment would be to join the Riviera Owners Association, a great club that is "dedicated to the preservation, restoration, and promotion of the Buick Riviera", here is their link ...

You just missed it, well by a couple of years anyway, the International Meet of the ROA was in Monterey in June of 2012  bonk

Congratulations again, and good luck with your project, it sounds like a VERY nice one to start your collection yay

Thanks. It's definitely a nice car. I think I don't know what a "display" car means. Enlighten me please. I intend to fix what needs to be fixed keeping the car original as much as possible and, enjoy occasional drives in this beauty down the Coast of Central California. When I'm gone I'm sure my wife will find someone else to enjoy it.

Yep! Regretfully I did miss the meeting in Monterey as I was out of country at the time. We have a whole bunch of car events (and other things) here and it'd be great to have Rivieras meet here again. And, thanks for the links Randall, I have joined ROA. And looking at your "stable"; you must be proud.

Welcome! We are a good bunch and some of us do indeed have some older Rivs, but you'll find Randall's links above the route to follow with more technical questions on your '63.

Congrats on the find! Post some pictures!
