IMPORTANT ADVICE FOR NEWBIES!!!

when i first started out on the riv, i wanted to go fast! and i wanted it bad enough that i thought i could outsmart the system. i gutted and wrapped the airbox, got a k&n, installed a 180 thermostat ang autolite 104s. thats all well and good, but i made my mistake when i purchased a 3.3 pulley! KR was not as i figured it would be, i was seeing spikes of 3-5kr @ WOT. not terrible since they came and went. but i still felt as if i wasn't getting as much out of the motor as it should, especially after getting beat by a V-6 camero from 20mph and after driving a stock 95 series one car that had more pull than my series 2!!!!. after further research, i saw a video of three GTPs running one another, one was stock, one had the same mods as me and the other had the same mods but with a 3.6 pulley.
well the 3.3 car pulled on the stock car slowly but ended up being devoured by the car with the 3.6. WHY you ask, FUEL!!!!! the stock fuel settings WILL NOT support any smaller than the 3.6, all i was doing was running my car so lean, that i have no clue how it didn't explode due to knock (showing the longevity of the 3800). so i ordered a 3.6 and the differance was AMAZING. Before the switch, my brothers lightly modified vortec V-6 2 door blazer (which can take a stock V-tech civic) could bretty much school me from 50. Not anymore! i can talke him not only from 50, but 30, 40 and most of all, from a stop! he CAN'T beat me.
so now i'll learn to listen to the guys with experiance. thanks guys, and i hope this teaches the new guys not to get ahead of their cars!!

3.3" is a pretty drastic drop without any other mods besides the 180* tstat. wink

You should invest in a scanner! Good thing you didn't blow your engine with that thing.

Good post. Sorry you found out the hard way, but glad you fixed the problem. Here's the GTP thread: https://rivperformance.editboard.com/Supercharged-3800-Tech-c2/Series-II-Engine-Transmission-f4/theorys-prooven-t788.htm

Using a 3.6" is pretty safe. Some have used a 3.5" with no problem. 3.4" is pushing the boundary of our stock fueling program. The reason your car was slow with the 3.3" is because KR pulled spark timing. That also protected your engine from damage.

What is KR now with the 3.6"?
