I am trying to get the passenger door open. The outside push button handle is jammed. Question: Will I need to take apart the door trim and if so, can this be done with the door shut. I haven't done anything about it until maybe someone has a suggestion. Thank you. (When I bought the car, there was no problem) It is a 1982 Riviera.

I can't imagine fixing this from outside the door. You will probably need to open the door. I take it the interior handle is also jammed? Try wiggling the lock and door handle at the same time?

I have never done this on a Riviera, but on a Dodge I had with this problem I used a 'slim jim' to move the door latch actuator. Then I could take off the old handle and replace it.

You'll need to see where the Riv's rods run to do likewise, it may not work. I want to think there is a picture on this site somewhere.

I was able to finally un jam the door on my 1982 Riv. It took time for the penetrating oil to take effect. I kept working the door lock up and down and working the door handles also. The door opened and works as new now.
