It might be stuck. Fix is not hard. If you poke around you can still get the masts, and get a good used power unit from a wrecking yard or pick-n-pull, the power units were used on a LOT of GM cars. Alternatively there is a Metra 44 (PW-22) antenna has adapters and will fit -- I used one for a while when mine first broke; came across an OE antenna (I think Ed Morad pulled it from an Olds) and switched to that, and sold the Metra for short money to a buddy.

Great eye thank you Albert. If it is broken the fix is not too bad. Hopefully it's not or the dealer will fix it for me while it is still laying there waiting for a transporter because I can not run it through a car wash like that.

Some say car washes are hard on paint . . .

I'm sure it is LOL. It helps that the car is white and I bought it to drive daily so I'm going to try not to get myself too crazy.

BTW, there is a stripe on the left side and no stripe on the right. Could be a story behind it...

Probably a body repair/repaint. Painted pinstripes can cost hundreds of dollars *per panel* to have applied. Usually a local/regional sign painter can do this. Try finding an independent one and work out a deal.

I'm sure the car was redone but it's a cheap car so I'm not going to get very emotional LOL. I'm going to find out if it's a tape stripe or a paint stripe and I can either apply it to the passenger side or I probably just get rid of it on the driver side.

If I were you , even though it's $$ I would have a sign painter paint on astripe. That painted stripe is a throwback to when only the better cars even had pinstripe detailing. If you go to the Pierce-Arrow museum in Buffalo NY you'll see what I mean -- the nice Cords, the Packard Silver Arrow, those were the cars that got the painted pinstripes. http://www.pierce-arrow.com/

I will find out soon enough because the car was finally shipped today so I should see it Thursday or so. I'll see how I feel with the pinstripe but I would probably just tape the other side which I can do myself or just remove it. I also have to keep in my head that this is going to be my daily and not make myself crazy that I a show car because I already have one habit, here it is lol. Albert, you're very knowledgeable about these cars. What size double din radio do I need to look for. They seem like a weird size in this car?

Thank you, funny thing is it has double the miles of the Riviera.

There are other threads on this site with radio installs and recommendations. The "issue" is many doubledins are too deep to fit in the radio cavity (face fits OK). Cavity is shallow and rigid to reduce NVH. You can cut the cavity but the dash in turn may start squeaking.

I have not considered that the newer doubledins with no CD (they are digital heads, FM/AM/USB/flash) are not as deep and may fit -- might want to see of anyone from Crutchfield.com has looked into that. I bet they have.

As for that 'bird, looks nice. I have a delusion of getting one with the 6, then dropping my Riv engine & engine controls into it (ha ha).

Thank you Albert, I searched and could not find anything.now I know what to do because I'm definitely not going to cut up my dish and have it squeaking because that's what drives me insane which is not a far trip LOL. I'm going to call pioneer and if they don't have it a port to my auxiliary on my factory radio.

Here is a Pioneer that will fit no kidding, in the 97-99 Riv having double DIN opening in the dash. Crutchfield shows the installation gear needed. They will *give* you the brackets to properly attach it inside the factory opening, and a short 'jumper' harness to let you plug it into the factory harness instead of splicing. The gadget to properly connect it to the steering wheel controls is less than $50.- -- plus, the unit is less than 4" deep so NO hacking the dash. There are other name-brand and not-so-name-brand radios that will fit likewise in the 97-99.

In the 96 the opening is 1 - 1/2 DIN. There are single-din heads that will fit, and Sony makes a single-DIN with double-DIN face that will fit, it's here:

The units with CD players built in are generally too deep for either '96 or '98.

I thought pioneer would have something similar to the AVH3800BT just without the CD unit to be able to fit. The unit in my firebird has a fully customizable screen, AppRadio live so I can mirror my phone and see Waze on the screen and Bluetooth. it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to replicate that with this car so I will probably just add an auxiliary to the factory radio and get Bluetooth and iPod connectivity. I guess in a way it's good so I can leave the car anywhere when not home in my garage and nobody will break the window to rip out the radio. Thank you for your wealth of knowledge Albert.

You are welcome. I'd like to know what approach/items you would use to add Bluetooth to the factory head unit.
