| Was driving to work go to get on the highway car shut off put in neutral restarted it and continued driving. 5 miles later car started making a load noise (thought it was a flat tire or something) didn't see anything physically wrong. Still driveable but it sounds like when your tires go over the rumble strips on the road. The sound is coming from under the hood. I'm assuming it is the transmission as the RPMs were bouncing all over the place... any thoughts? Appreciate any advice. 2002 Buick rendezvous front wheel drive | |

Look under the car and see if you can see anything obvious, then whether you see anything or not tow it to a dealer or auto repair shop. Look for driveline damage, suspension damage from impact or rust-through, inner fender well detatchment, wires to the ABS damaged, among other things. Your big problem may be that the car's not worth much cash compared to the cost of repair. You may want to check car listings to find a replacement vehicle that is running at a price that works for you. How to reckon that -- look at the 'trade in' value and compare it to the 'dealer' asking price on the car using a web page like edmunds.com or kbb.com (Kelley Blue Book). If you are just looking at cash value and not utility, that will give you an idea of how much $ would get you questioning whether to repair it rather than replace it. If you work on the car yourself it may be a win - you should be able to find parts on one or more donor cars in a pick-and-pull not too far away for very, very short money and $1,500 you spend for someone else to do a repair is $1,500 you could spend yourself on tools and parts, fix the car yourself, and complete a repair that would likely have cost you more or would have had you junking your car. It depends. If you are looking at utility, in the USA just about any vehicle that is roadworthy enough to pass all state's inspection has utility of $2,000 - $3,000. If you can spend around that then you might want to scrap the RDV and get a different car. Finally, this sire doesn't have much expertise on the Rendezvous, not sure why you posted here.
