| I see a lot of pictures and instructions for 96 -99 rivieras not so much for 95 rivieras ,do they make any 2 din units to fit my 95 and connects to my steering wheel controls? the stereo shop down the street from me suggested to get a 96 dash. I really don't want to go that route . Any suggestions welcome thanks for reading. also what is the difference in my 95 compared to 96through 99? | |

| In a word, no, and a '96 dash isn't that bad except for (a) the time it will take to dismantle the car that far (b) the HVAC controls, which also differed '95 to '96 IIRC.
So, yeah, you might not want to do that... but...
Here's the thing: the '95 has a 1-1/2 DIN opening for the radio, but the cavity is too shallow by about 2" to take one of the single-din units with retractable screen.
Which leaves you with things like this: https://www.ebay.com/i/312826969097
I have no idea how real-world-sturdy those things are.

Pls. double-check. That sounds like height; depth my guess is more like 5 inches +/- something. I could be wrong, my guess is based on how GM (Delco Electronics) was making radios at the time and that it has a built in cassette deck. An accessory CD player went in the single-DIN opening where the cassette holder goes. I am thinking that if it can be mounted so it does not block other controls, that floating screen radio might be the shiznit. The one I posted the link to is stupid large, though, they make smaller ones.

You're welcome. Crutchfield doesn't sell a 1-1/2 or double din radio for this app. However they are knowledgeable and everything I've got from then had **always** fit physically and electrically no exceptions. If that floating-tablet thing looked interesting, might want to call Crutchifeld and ask if they are thinking about offering one. I have heard of some people simply cutting out the back of the box in the dash (with a dremel I suppose) but I don't know what the long term effect of that might be (noise or fracture). At least one Rivperformance member did that and posted about it, I suppose if you search you'd find the posts, it was a while ago. Like, years.

Unit body constructed cars all flex, granted some flex less than others. With that flex, cutting out part of the dash structure could lead to creaking. I think the OP had posted he'd had no issues, but it's been a while -- maybe you could contact him and ask. Here's a single din unit (I think you can get a single din adapter from Crutchfield) that's 7" - I don't know if it will still block the dash HVAC vents or controls -- usually those things let you choose the elevation at which they are mounted so I guess you get to pick your poison. My wild a$$ guess is that a good single din version of such a unit would work great. Single din mount kits are not expensive for your car. I do wonder if the steering wheel control adapter would work. My further guess is the radio would have to be mounted with the top just below the bottom of the HVAC controls and might block the dash vents just a little if at all. Given that it's only 102mm tall (about 4 inches) probably not. This one (LINK) claims steering wheel controls, but I have no idea what they are thinking that means for implementation... I mean, if it *does* such controls are simple to implement, I was told they are just resistor networks, but I don't have one of these aftermarket radios so I really can't say.

| The one you posted requires a double din opening, meaning you will need a 97 or later dash. This one https://www.ebay.com/i/312826969097 does not, it requires a single din opening and not much depth. It 'Floats' in front of the dash. | |

You're welcome. I'd find one installed or at least in a display rack first before putting it in. Supposedly it will work with steering wheel controls. I'd want to see that work too.

That may be a good idea, IIRC the CD player bay was a standard single DIN mount. If so the floating radio would go there, you could leave the old one alone or make a blackout panel or compartment to go there instead.
