New from Berlin Germany Empty
PostSubject: New from Berlin Germany   New from Berlin Germany EmptySat Feb 22, 2020 4:50 am

Hello,
I want to introduce myself as a new member. I am based in Berlin, Germany and I own a 1995 Riviera Supercharged and a 1998 Riviera Base. I drive those for like 1,5 years now and I never saw another one anywhere. I get asked almost every day about that car because nobody knows here what it is.

The 1998 is my daily driver and I love it. One of the smoothest rides I ever had. The 1995 I am currently tuning up and bringing back on the road

Hello Oliver. Welcome. Tell us more about the car and post pictures asap if possible. I've been to Germany (a few cities)
and I love it.
WELCOME 🍻

You don't see bench Rivs or the rims (wheel covers?) on the 98 very often.

In 2018, I went on vacation to Finland. I was surprised that no one there paid ANY attention to Riviera. Total ignore, as if Riviera was invisible.

Grüss aus Washington!

Last time I was in Berlin, I had to drive thru Checkpoint Alpha at Helmstedt, check in with the Russians who sure eyeballed my stunning tall redheaded wife-at-the-time parked in the '66 Valiant, beat feet no faster than 2 hours, no slower than 5 hours trek across the Worker's Paradise, where the barbed wire pointed in, not out, to visit the Russians again before proceeding to Checkpoint Bravo and turning in my paperwork, to include the flashcards demanding to speak only to a Russian officer is stopped by the East German polizei. That was '87. I've still got my stamped movement orders on my desk, and this was a nice trip down memory lane. Checkpoint Charlie came two days later when we drove into East Berlin, remonstrated to not engage in money changing nor even THINK of putting someone in the trunk to smuggle back thru Charlie. I had to be in uniform, but oh that tall redheaded ex- sure turned heads. BTW, Stoli vodka cost me 67¢ a liter after the unofficial exchange rate of 14:1 East/West German Mark. I still have a few East German tools with "DDR" stamped on them, and that, plus down comforters (buy the blue ones) were truly a bargain. The wife and comforter are gone, but the tools and memories live on.
