PostSubject: Cooling system over heating   Cooling system over heating EmptySat Jun 26, 2021 7:09 pm

I need your input please...95 supercharged overheating

-elbow leak into intake fixed at garage
...comes back ok running good...proper temp
-notice a leak at front of car a week later
....confirm hairline crack in rads left plastic tank
....replace rad with rock auto source
....refill, burp system check for leaks
....notice both fans on...gauge heading for red zone

-upper rad hose not very hot at all..can grab with my hand...Luke warm
...remove thermostat boil tested...180°, opening, a little late but opening
I've heat through the heater hoses....very hot
...lower rad hose very hot temp gauge heading for red....
Is it possible a new rad to be plugged?
Waterpump failure?
Blockage elsewhere ...any and all input would be appreciated on what and how to check next
Thank you

possible causes

- thermostat in backwards (rare, happens)
- still have a leak, air in system
- water pump failure (rare, happens)
- head gasket failure from prior overheat

to find the leak consider getting some coolant dye and borrowing or buying a radiator pressure test kit, then follow those instructions... as for blockage, it may be that debris from some failed component is causing blockage, or minerals if you used tap water to blend/top off your coolant (always use water without minerals such as distilled, or dehumidifier condensate, or some such).

Thx Albert,....thermostat is in properly and boil tested
Going to remove thermostat and try a reverse flush just with a garden hose see what treasures come out....obviously it's not circulating so to put any chemicals in there would be a waste of money....
