PVC Temp. rating? Empty
PostSubject: PVC Temp. rating?   PVC Temp. rating? EmptySun Jul 29, 2007 12:55 pm

Hey all, I'm looking at installing a PVC CAI or FWI (not sure which yet) but I'm curious to know how PVC holds up to the heat of our engines. I know alot of you have done it with great results, but I was told by someone at work it wont handle the heat..... I just need some clarification.

Thanks!

It has held up fine for me. If you are worried, look into the "swiss cheese" airbox using a panel filter. Our stock filter has a fairly big area.

I've used PVC on mine with no trouble at all. I also painted it black with no problem. That kind of problem is more with very thin walled, smaller PVC if anything because it can warp from heat, like your friend probably said but I definitely haven't had any problem at all with mine and I did pull it apart after the fact and looked at it. still like new. I'm not sure if anyone on here has used it with headers though.

I have a hard time believing the heat in our engine compartments would have any significant effect on the heavy pvc pipe you get at your local Home Depot, etc.

every time i tell someone im going to use pcv to make an intake they think im crazy or they think it will be riged up with duct tape and bondo lol
but what most people dont realize is our intake made with pvc is using 3.5 or even 4 inch pipe! this is heavy duty stuff, and i dont even think they make in any thiner that 1/8" or 1/4". if your pipe melts then you have far worse problems...like you're on FIRE flame

I also question the use of PVC, but it seems to work for most that use it. Here's the original thread:

Cool, I think I'm just gonna try it out and see what happens.....
Turtleman did you ever get your lights figured out? My problem ended up being the lighting control module.... $560 CDN later its fixed.
BTW If anyone needs one of these modules I have a used one from Ed Morad for a 97 Riv you can have, just pay shipping.... Appparently it wouldn't work on my 96 confused
