Greg Gessler is a well-known and highly reputable head/manifold porting specialist in the Buick community, but I didn't know he did 3800 projects too. Here's a link to his head porting page, priced for different levels of work, from stock to strip.

thats not too bad of a price, but for the same price, you can get Intense heads. I port and polished my own heads and got bigger valves that will defiantly outdo whatever he does....but Im never ever in a million years doing it again unless Im getting paid $1000.

Good find. Price isn't too bad for what it is, but still...

I could install an IC for less. neutral

For sure, head porting is never cheap when you pay someone else to do the work. Very labor-intensive, and expensive equipment needed to do the job right.

It's one of those mods you just pay for unless you really know what you're doing, which I don't. If I were getting it done, would have to go Stage III. Only $700 more to have the best, and all the work of tearing the heads off...might as well.

I didnt know what I was doing aside from grinding concrete and other metals for work with HD tools....But I went through 3 dremels and very steady hands and alot of coppin a feel on the CC's. Once you know what to look for when porting heads, its really easy assuming you have extreme patience because Cast iron doesnt like to grind down very easy.

Did you do anything to increase the compression ratio for E85?

I did the complete opposite and hogged out the CC. and put in 8.0:1 bored .010 over diamond pistons. Ill probably run a 50/50 blend for a while once I get tuning. and then go full E85. Ill eventually be pushing so much boost that the E85 will love it. I just got a 3" pulley for my GEN V so Im looking at probably 12 psi min.

Agree, no need to increase compression ratio, just up the boost! More air/fuel in with lower comp ratio.

I could have sworn I'd read about increased compression being used to optimize for ethanol, but you guys are right, boost will do it as well -

Quote :
Saab Introduces E85 Turbo BioPower Engine

But E85 also has a high octane rating (around 110), and Saab realized that a turbocharger could harness it. Turbos push extra air into the cylinder, and higher octane allows a fuel to better endure the increased pressure. So Saab cranked up its fans and created the BioPower engine, the first commercially available ethanol turbo. A computer samples the fuel mixture and adjusts boost pressure—from 5.8 psi for pure gasoline to 13.8 psi for E85. Running straight gasoline, the engine produces 148 horsepower, but E85 jacks it up to 184, with no penalty in fuel economy.

Link

So how far can boost be pushed with the L67 before things start blowing up?

I regularly see peaks of 13 PSI in cooler weather. I remember a scan from a long time ago showing 15 PSI at 6kRPM (with about 6 deg of KR) during a track run, but when I mentioned this to the guys at INTENSE, they couldn't believe it. Perhaps I was wrong in my calculations, but I didn't think I was, and can't find the scan to prove it.
