PostSubject: major power loss   major power loss EmptySun Sep 16, 2007 7:33 pm

i was just out driving to get dinner and my riv started messing up really bad. i went to pass someone (i was rolling about 40) and went WOT to get around and into the far lane, unfortunately my rpms bogged down to about 1500 and the car surged +-50rpm.(not a heavy surge like trans shifting back and fourth, but light surging) i was flooring it, dumping air into the s/c, and nothing was happening. im guessing KR was through the roof and timing was pulled like never before!
so i let off the gas and rolled to the stop light. sit there waiting for the CEL to light up...nothing. it idles fine and revs fine in N, so i give it some gas on green. drives fine and has plenty of power all the way to 70.(didnt go WOT, but i was def into the boost)
i pull into the place i was getting food from (quizno's) and again it bogs down, but this time it is less noticeable b/c i am light on the throttle and it bogs at about 2k rpm just cruising at 30. i pull in, pop the hood and look around, expecting to find a vac line unplugged or belt split in half or something. nope! bonk

so it drove home ok and went WOT fine. no CEL and no weird noises. i looked over everything again once i got back and it all looks normal. im about to go pull a plug or 2 and check vac lines, maf, etc.
anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this extreme hesitation? maybe faulty MAF? tranny? plugs and wires are all new (plugs are only about 2mo old and plugs are less than a year old.)
i really wish i had a code to go on. oh, and i cant make the car do it again, only when it want to.
Matthew

Hard to say. I'd get the scanner hooked up and try to get it to repeat. I'm betting something like that is bound to occur again. Double check vac lines... isn't the transmission assisted by vacuum on the '96s?
