ok i have a 95 rivi series one and the car will start right up but wont idle corectly,the guy i bought the car from said it was one of the sensors that tells the engine were its at or something like that promised to send me the sensor once he got it . could this problem be a sensor or did the guy just BS me

Could be the MAF sensor, but doubt he would send you one, as they are $185 or so. Might try removing the MAF sensor and cleaning it with electronic parts cleaner. Takes about 15 mins, be careful handling the MAF sensor.

Also check for vaccum leaks. As hese will also affect idle.

also make sure the IAC is clean and free of carbon build up.
if it were me, i would sea foam the top end, clean the TB and sensors with intake cleaner, then get some new plugs. maybe even a new fuel filter. all as precautionary measures for the future and to rule out most of the causes of rough idle. all that doesnt cost more than $30 btw.
