Write-Up: Installing Boost Gauge

CD holder location might not be large enough to clear the bezels on standard size gauges. Maybe someone can verify if this is the case. It could still be done, but would likely require some customization to the trim.

Why? You would have to cut that whole section off and add a Bezel to house the gauges. Alot more work, plus the gauge location is even lower restricting your view. The gauges in my picture are 2 1/16". Not sure they would fit. The ashtray is ideal IMHO, unless of course you are a smoker.

You're right Larry - Your install looks good! I never use the CD tray but realized just yesterday that with a milkshake in the cupholder view would be further obstructed...not a smoker, ashtray is for toll money but may be time for EZ pass.

Wow, that Aeroforce Interceptor is really a neat product, and a good price at around $250 for what I've seen of it online.

I know you probably don't know this answer, but I wonder if it would work on the OBD "1.5" that the 1995's use. I guess I'd have to ask them.

The Aeroforce is a great product, worth every dollar. Unfortunately, I'm almost sure it won't work with OBD1.5. More reading here (I think the question is asked):

Has anyone found a particular style gauge series that is a close match to the look of the stock instruments?

....or one that is modifiable to match, such as being able to access the needle and paint it white?

I like the drivers door panel location for two reasons:  aesthetic, and it sounds like it may boost the air velocity of the remaning vent, which is somewhat weak with both vents.

I think most gauges feature a threaded lens, like a filter on a camera. This would let you not only paint the needle, but also install a Riviera themed background insert. I've done this with my Aeroforce gauge, using the typeface "Eurostyle" to match the factory dash lettering:

daaamn 107mpg?? you got one-ah dem inbreds or sumthin?

13 mile neutral coast in eastern MD. Got over 100 MPG for 10 minutes!

I personally think mine is pretty close. I looked all over and couldn't find one closer to the original style that I liked. I just wish I could have found one with a close to matching needle.

Thanks, the A-pillar install looks very clean.

I looked through that thread though, and couldn't find where you identified the make/model of the gauge. I did see the photo, but it is pretty low resolution so couldn't make out the gauge make.

Do you recall if that gauge bezel and lens comes off so one could paint the needle without major surgery?

I was using my old camera then, lol. The gauges came assembled as a whole. I'm not sure if you can take the lens off of those or not. They are both Autometer gauges. Boost gauge is part # 2614 Z-series 2". The oil pressure gauge should be the same Z-series and 2" like the boost gauge with a range of 0-100. I do not have the part number for the oil gauge though. Hope that helps.

The Sunpro gauge used in the write up looks very good, and is a good low cost choice:  CP8213

The only downside I see to this gauge is that needle is not lit, but it is a very clean looking option.



Here is an assortment of Auto Meter gauges that based on some quick research I think also are good candidates to match or coordinate well with the Riviera interior and stock gauges (in no particular order).  These are all 2 1/16" sized gauges the the write-up shows as a fit for the door panel vent placement.

Auto Meter 8404 - These are interesting, as they have a similar look as our stock gauges, both in numeral style and pointer/hub construction.  And they are backlit green.  They were designed to mimic Ford OEM gauges.

This is the Autometer gauge I used. I just installed the green cover on the back lighting to closer match the Riv's lighting.

I need a good spot to mount my AFG any ideas

One of the vents in the door. I would do the top one since it usually blows into my eye no matter how I have it oriented.

Lol so eve tho I still use my a/c that wouldn't short this thing out in such a manner

It will just keep the gauge cooler, and the left side of the car will be a little warmer. You wont short anything if you wire it correctly.

I keep plenty cool even with half of the vents blocked off (this coming from the man who wraps up in a blanket in the summer and wears shorts in the winter)

AA im trying to figure out why my (timing says -22 ) long term fuel 16.9 im trying learn this thing....I like your mounting ideas too that was awesome

16.9 LTFT, if it's (+), means your PCM is maxed out adding fuel to correct a serious lean condition, or it thinks there's a lean condition. A faulty or dirty MAF sensor could cause this. I would not go WOT until you figure this out.

The -22 spark timing means 22º before TDC, which is fine. This number will change a lot depending on how you drive. Should be -25 to -35 on the highway, around -26 when you're cruising around, and between -10 and -15 at WOT.

hi every body . I want to put a boost guage on my97 riv where do I put it what does it hook up to

I hooked up my boost under supercharger with a tee .but still not working .can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong . I fell pretty dumb right now .help me please. thank you f.romano
